I see there are quite a few painters in our midst, but is there anyone who draws?

I have tried to learn and improve countless times but I'm lacking either the talent or the patience (presumedly both).

i'm drawing now.
step one:
drawing is about looking and seeing.

for me drawing is about not looking and not thinking and just drawing.
but i'm not trying for reality.

my only advice is to draw all the time and to do it because it's fun and don't worry about how it comes out.

i credit boring college classes with the fact that i can draw well.

I tried to come up with an analagous musical example to that, but i can't. So how does your statement make you feel?

Not only that, but picasso did some realism right? So technically he could do it all. I'm not saying you can't do it all, but when it comes to music, i'm trying to learn how to do it all (practically impossible), and my limitations drive me insane.

Are you just comfortable with that statement? If so, i'm envious.

picasso could render just fine.
he had other things on his mind like taking what cezanne had started and pushing it to his limits.
he'd be nothing without that and his complete hatred of women.

yeah, picasso was insane. he could do anything.

i'm not 100% comfortable with that statement. i wish i was better at realism. And i think if i put tons and tons of effort into it i could be good at realism, maybe even great. But i never got much pleasure from realism. Either looking at it or making it, so i give up on it too easily.

but i don't let my limitations stop me for making stuff. I focus on what i enjoy and what i think i do well and use that to explore different styles.

but yes, i wish i was better at pretty much everything i do.

and that works to make me feel bad about what i can't do, but also pushes me to keep exporing and improving.

no more than any other artist. i don't think he was into drugs at all but i don't really know.
he had an unsurpassed/overinflated ego and would do anythoing to be popular including hanging out with the nazis for a bit.
and ruining women's lives.

most people believe that everything he did is gold.
he had an entire show at the metropolitan museum of art filled with his ceramic work and every piece was a piece of crap.
i appreciate what he did for contemporary art but completely loathe the guy.

picasso and matisse were contmeporary rivals and i'd take matisse over this guy any day.

and matisse never did much for me.

art is fun.

i'm actually moving out of my Picasso obsession fandom. I don't salivate at everything he does, but he was a pretty huge influence on me.

My next degree will be an art one. Just for me. Not because I expect any money or a career out of it but rather I want to outwardly manifest some ideas I have in my head. That and because I love looking at art and I want to learn more than what I have seen, know and have read about. I've done some amateur photography before that's hanging around the house but that's about it.

Does that count?

jewels,
have you ever looked at stuart davis' work. pretty abstract stuff but based in reality.
at one point in his career he wanted to set a strict discipline for himself so he nailed an electric fan, a rubber glove and an egg beater to a table and made paintings of that still life for one year.

i always see a hint of klee in your work. are you a fan?

Just finished my second one in December. :D

I'm still debating on whether to go back in September. It's prolly too soon though because I'm doing intensive on-the-job training now that will last two years after which I can get a specialist certification in.

I know nothing about art, but I like to look.

I do not belong in this thread, but I had the urge to spew some useless information.
