i lived in park slope for 11 years or so. downside versus upside:
downside: it's a nice neighborhood, but getting much more like brooklyn heights. it still retains some of its original flavor, but not much. everything is getting very expensive and to be honest, it's a little too much of a stroller brigade nowadays for my taste.
prospect hts [north side of flatbush ave] is a gamble since ratner's building that stadium by hook or by crook. most of the buildings are going to be levelled and the neighborhood is going to be decimated. think [robert] moses tearing the south bronx in half. jeez, that's kind of ironic, isn't it?
anyhow.
most of the real estate is really jumping up in price, so if you're going to do it, do it soon, and sign yrself up for a couple of years at least. otherwise you'll be looking at another rent hike in 12 months. the landlords know what people are willing ot pay to live there, and they exploit it at every turn.

upside: lots of restaurants, lots of bars, a good small-sized club [southpaw] and a good tiny club [barbez]. lots of attractive 20 something singles, even tho a few too many hipsters have started to creep in. very accessible with the f/n/r/g/m/2/3/4/5/6/d/q trains all within a relatively short distance, either along 9th st, 4th ave, or up towards atlantic ctr if yr on the north end of the slope. you do pay for convenience, tho.

i really like southpaw. i just hate that its so far from the f train.

wait, is southpaw in park slope or prospect park? both are pretty nice areas. if i couldn't live on the les, i would choose either of the other 2. but of course, i live in parkville. where? exactly.

no, manhattan's getting ridiculous. and its dirty as sin. the only good thing is all the good venues are on the les.

brooklyn is just clean and nice. well, parts of it.

I'd move to Park Slope if I were moving to NY, which I most assuredly am not doing. Some of the stroller brigade folks are my friends, so I could probably deal with that.

its a really pleasant area. not as action-packed as others, but its clean for the most part with good restaurants. good bars are few and far between.

seems to be mainly for people in the midwest and california. the number of Ohio license plates I see around here is astounding. also, for anyone in an indie band, a recently graduated philosophy major, or someone with a graphic arts degree.

I had an excellent time in Brooklyn thanks to Aaron and Katie! It was only one night, but I could tell it was the kind of place I would love to live in

We stayed out there when we went out for the CMJ fest. Josh's sister lives in Brooklyn.

Truly enjoyed the stay out there. Would definitely go back for a bit.

And if I ever had to move to NY then that's where it would be.
