The only place I've ever heard mention of Gnarls Barkley is here.

I couldn't get into it. It disappointed me that GB got released but the Jazze Pha/Cee-lo record is delayed indefinitely.

There's a handful of good tunes on the album, but overall i'd give it a 5/10.

Well, not that it necessarily effects the general population here, but MTV has an ad for them every other commercial. And, I think they affect more folks than Obners do. :)

Fun, but not great.

Yeh, I wouldn't know about that. I'd rather have dirty wooden sticks jabbed in my eyeballs than ever watch another music video.

Don't you know. They don't play music videos on that station.

I don't watch MTV regularly, and I'm lucky if I hear this on the local "alternative rock" station here. So no, I don't think it's overhyped, however I would say it ranks about 7/10.

I don't really think it matters all that much. I'd rather hear a fun record that I don't expect to have a whole lot of staying power than most of the stuff out there.

I like them, but I can see where indie elitist and music geeks would call them overhyped. They have reached that point of notoriety and publicity that they either break in to the mainstream in a huge way that will become annoying real fast or remain on the cusp of massive fame as some well regarded/ relatively unknown to normal people band.
I can see them being the Kanye West/Outkast of this year's grammy awards.

They were number 1 in the UK singles chart for 9 weeks.

How ever did I miss that? I live and die by that chart.

it's pretty much like any cee-lo record: a handful of really good tracks mixed in with some overwrought high-fallutin' bullshit. dangermouse is similarly disappointing--i end up liking about half of the tracks he puts out. still, "crazy" is still lightyears better than anything else in the r&b top 40.

Dulli's cover of Crazy was great. I wanted to have sex with him at the end of it.

it's a good album with some serious bright spots like "crazy" and "smiley faces." i've listened to it a handful of times in the last week and, while i enjoy it, i never feel like, "hey, i should listen to that again right now."

I think it's great for what it is. Some of the vocals are awkward. Some of the production underachieves. But the standout tracks are pretty awesome.

First listen really hooked me in. Digging it a bunch.

Record company is playing it smart by pulling "Crazy" from the UK shelves early for the next single instead of trying to make it a record breaker and risking serious overplay.

havent been out much lately?

its fucking inescapable here right now - its on the urban stations and the pop ones and everyones mp3 player.

I mean, its still a good song, but I had my fill of it months ago. It'll be good in a few years again. It's the new 'Hey Ya' i suppose then.

The album as a whole is pretty boring though.
