What I meant by overhyped was not to comment on the quality of the music or whatever. I just meant that they are getting as much attention and are being broadcast over major media avenues more than anything else right now. Everytime I hear a radio or see a commercial on mtv there is this talk about gnarls barkley and then am subjected to hearing "crazy" again.

The song seems mediocre to me. I mean I suppose it's catchy and all but they're everywhere. They just seem to be hyped more than they are really worth. I hear Gnarls Barkley almost as much as I heard Coldplay's "Clocks" when that was all over.

I wonder why all of a sudden some individual band gets ridiculous amounts of attention.

I think what a few of us were pointing out is that 'overhyped' is a very relative term. If you don't listen to the radio, watch music television or read a lot of mainstream publications then chances are you aren't going to find this band to be overhyped and not get oversaturated on 'Crazy'. For the focus groups' age range who particpate in those specific media outlets, then I suppose one could get pretty tired of the song and the band.

If my friend Matt emails me and asks, "Have you heard of ____________?" I know that something has blown up larger than usual and has permeated a wider audience. As far as I know, he doesn't troll music boards and is surrounded by shit radio.

He recently asked about Gnarls. Yesterday he asked about Wolfmother, although he thought it was "Motherwolf." Maybe it's a cable TV thing.

Lots of hype; yeah, because they're an easy band to feel good about liking.

But there's also the fact that it's a fun, carefree and all-around *ahem* crazy record that's perfect for the time of year. Great morning music on a sunny day, great driving around music, great party music. It covers all the bases.
And while there's some definite sketchy spots, it's got a gestalt thing going that makes the whole record flourish.

So stop trying to harsh my buzz, man. Just enjoy the music.

I think that the PANIC!!! at the Disco song ("I write sins..."?) is going to give Gnarls a run for its money.

Fuelled by Ramen has finally found its Offspring/Promise Ring.
