I don't think Elliot Smith ever did anything as uniformly great as In Utero, but honestly I haven't listened to him quite as much.

I saw it, I just feel that his solo work supersedes his work with Heatmiser. It's kind of like separating Eno from his work with Roxy Music.

stupid comparison, but i think esmith is miles better. kurt is very valid and songs like "come as you are" and "smells like teen spirit" will forever be incredible, but i feel like elliott was just a lot more interesting. i've listened to "needle in the hay" alone more than i've listened to all of nirvana's catalog combined.
