In my humble opinion...
for $25 you get:
1. admission to a minor league baseball game
2. all the food you can eat -- meat and vegetable products galore.
3. all the beer you can drink -- micro-brews abound
4. a one way ticket out for being a public disturbance.

seems like a fair trade to me.
Madison Mallards games are going to be a weekly shin-dig.

I feel that i should have tried this beer before, coming straight outta the 'Gash, haha or nearly so...

For those of you putting this in perspective, the Allagash is where the road ends...seriously like it turns to a dirt road, then nothing...

I like it quite a bit, if I'm in the mood for something american but a bit more complex, but they also have a ten year anniversary beer that i prefer a bit more.

Have not had the Gnarly, but Lagunitas quality control has gone downhill over the last few years. The Dogtown Ale used to be my favorite, but alas, no more.

Here's reviews of the Brown Shuggah: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22 ... &start=150 The Gnarlywine may be around there somewhere.

I've reached the point where I almost exclusively drink stouts, and most everything else tastes like water or at least doesn't taste good.

Anyone else ever have that "problem"?

Yeah, me likey the Lagunitas Brown Shugga.

As for Allagash, it seems awfully familiar, and I'm sure my beer snob husband has had it before. Hell, I may have even had it, but I don't keep track of it as well as he does.

Check this out... can't wait to see what's there!

Roots is one of my favorite pubs in Portland right now.

I brewery I go to has Allagash sometimes, but I don't think I've ever tried it.

I guess that's really all I've got.

Have you actually had the Brown Shugga in the last couple of years?

It's only a memory of what it used to be, imho.

Thanks for the tip on Roots. My sis lives in Portland, so we'll have to check it out.

I'm excited to be able to buy a few more 4-packs of Allagash while I'm in Chicago this weekend. I hope to have a couple of pints at a brewpub that has this on tap!!!

Beer is good.

Period.

I'll down Natty Light if it's the only thing available but, when it's all said and done, it's beer. This makes it good.

'Nuff said.

Late to the party, but their marketing folks are asleep at the wheel. They should have branded it White Terror instead of plain ol' White.

May you be drinking for hours before anyone notices how tanked you are...

and may we end up at the same party where no microbrews are available. It is in this way that there will be the proverbial "more for me"...

yes yes yes. i'm a fan of all belgian-style ales. allagash has good stuff and isn't nearly as expensive as chimay (though i get that when i'm feeling saucy). also check out the output of the ommegang brewery. they have pretty good distro and great beers (the eponomously named brew, hennepin, and three philosophers are a few of theirs). good stuff, all.

<---Allagash fan. I love wheat beer. It seems to be the only style of beer that doesn't give me a headache after just one or two. (which sucks, btw). It's pretty much all I drink lately. Whatever ingredient that is substituted out for wheat (barley, hops?- I don't know enough about beer ingredients) must be something I'm allergic to.

A great thing about summer is all the wheat-style summer brews that come out. Sam's Summer is spectacular. Harpoon makes a great Hefeweizen.

My favorite warm weather beer right now is Real Ale Brewing Company's Fireman's #4 Blonde Ale. It's awesome, but I think only available in and around Austin, TX.

Quote:
Fireman's #4 Blonde Ale- "This light bodied blonde ale is perfectly
balanced with a touch of Crystal hops for bittering and aromatics.
Fireman's #4 is a great choice on any hot Texas summer day or pair it
with spicy foods to help you put out the fire. Check out Fireman's
Texas Cruzers: http://www.firemansbikes.com/"
