I've been playing Neil Young's Harvest Moon heaps lately. Nearly all of the songs follow the same format. Simple brush kit, accoustic strumming, lap steel, harmonica solo.

It's not even in the upper echelon of his records, but damn i'm liking it. Especially the title track.

It's just got that laid back feel about it. The album reminds me of an old dude smiling right before he kills himself. I dunno./

The Replacements - Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash

yeah... it's way lesser than most of their stuff.
Still, it's just a lot of damn fun.

I've played Harvest Moon non stop for about 3 hours now.

Call me old-fashioned, call me stupid, call me drunk, but it's making sense.

O, the sun's coming up. How quaint.

I agree totally with all of this, except I don't tend to think of it as one of his lesser efforts, at least within my own Neil rankings. I've listened to this about a 1000x more than Harvest. The title track is probably one of my all time favourite songs; Actually you really can't go wrong with the first six tracks, the last third of the album takes a bit of a dive, I have to admit, but is still pretty great stuff (Old King being the exception). Definitely best really late when you've had a few and are feeling kind of maudlin'.

Hell, I'll put Undercover out there as being openly awesome.

I have several:

Alice Cooper - Flush The Fashion (Thanks again, Dana!)
Neil Young - Landing on Water
Talking Heads - Naked
Replacements - Don't Tell a Soul
Frank Zappa - Bongo Fury

There are probably quite a few more I'll eventually remember later.

I don't know if the word "dig" really applies here, but I always thought Sinead O'Connor's "Universal Mother" was overlooked. It's actually a wonderful album.

You beat me to it, but this is by far my fave out of their catalog. In my top 10 albums in fact.

I listed to Sebadoh's The Sebadoh way more than any other Sebadoh album, which probably means I'm not a Sebadoh fan or something.

Yup. Several of her best songs are on there, especially "John I Love You," and "In This Heart," which will open the mix tape to be played at my funeral.

And apropos to this thread:

np: Jackson Browne - Lawyers in Love

Love's Four Sail is pretty damned strong.

Steely Dan's The Royal Scam is my favorite of theirs, but for some reason, it's not their best reviewed at all. I actually think their newer stuff (I'm really sorry, as a sidenote, to be talking this much about Steely Dan already) is kinda shitty. It all sounds so GRP. Good GRP, but so fucking processed.

Eels - Souljacker and/or Shootenanny!

I always thought Souljacker was the album they get cred from and made them darlings.

how many of you are going to mention Radiohead? Get over them already, their best album was made in 1995.
