Our dog got sprayed by a skunk in our backyard about 2 hours ago. I'm familiar with the smell skunks make, but I never had the opportunity to smell it from ground zero until now.

It's a nightmare. :(

Once we had a whole family of skunks that decided to take up residence in the crawlspace under our house. They sprayed our dog repeatededly. And other things as well. Our house became infused with that smell, and it took months for it to fade away. Eventually I got used to it though, and it was always a surprise for a visitor to ask what that small was, and then to have to explain it.

Not cool. We have a shed in our backyard and a few years ago a family of skunks moved in. Our collie only got sprayed once before a friend of my father's trapped them humanely and let them loose somewhere else.

I'm with you on that. Whenever I smell them when I'm driving it always seems like I should hate the smell but I actually sort of like it in a weird way.

Up close, the smell is different. Extremely overpowering, more pungent with more variations to the smell, and not in a good way. I don't think you'd like it as much if you were exposed to it up close.

And I'll bet you probably like the smell of roofing tar, too. :P

That's probably true. I don't think I'm big on roofing tar but I haven't smelled it in a while so maybe I would like it!

I once dated a girl that had a pet skunk.
It was debagged. It was pretty cute.

It was a rental. So we just moved out eventually. Not our problem!

I just think of a big bag of weed whenever I smell on one the road. Makes it all better.
