i have been having one of the most stressful, horrible days of my life.
i checked one of my usual sites: www.artnet.com and this painting by tony fitzpatrick was the postcard of the day image. it made me feel a little better and thought i'd share it.

tony is a wonderful painter from chicago. i've followed his work for over the past 20 years and god bless him his work has really taken off and is hotter than hell right now. everywhere. maybe i'll post a few more images in a bit. enjoy.

That's pretty cool. Kinda reminiscent of the Steve Earle "El Corazon" cover.

Sorry to hear your day is shitty, ayah.

you got me thinking, senator. why doesn't all music include the credits for album cover art? or liner notes for that matter?

and thanks, i'll be okay once my kids get here and remind me how unimportant my job is.

I've always liked his horror vacui approach.

Wax Poetics has run several articles on different art designers responsible for their respective label's cover art. Mostly jazz labels but some latin ones too. They also included pics of their favorite cover art. Pretty cool stuff indeed.

I like the Fitzgerald work you posted. Out of curiousity, what would something like that cost? I'm assuming its well out of my league but I've been thinking about picking something up one of these days.

I should have you fly out and pick stuff out for me. And I could work on converting you while you weren't paying attention.

Del McCoury's "The Mountain" which was done with Steve Earle...looks like his work as well.

I am not crazy about it but that is just one woman's opinion.

I really don't like outsider art. I hate the term too. It's so snobby!

there is this trend in art lately to fill every little tiny speck/corner of the page/canvas/whatever with image. American art is in an "obsessive" period right now.

what's up with that?

it's just that I look at and handle art ALL DAY and it seems like we're constantly getting new things that have the smallest littlest details all over in them. minutae are everywhere!

The true meaning of being an American: You want everything and when you don’t get it you feel deprived and then get entirely neurotic about it and therefore fill in the space to signify your feelings of loss after developing OCD (because you heard about that on Oprah or read about it on the Internet).
