So...

I don't know if this discussion is already going on in one of the other threads (I should check right? )

What a great goal.

2 for Klose now and number 16 on Germany has an assist. Sick game

These Costa Rican strikers can finish like madmen....who knew?

Much like most first 1st Rd games, this is a sloppy affair.

Pura Vida!

Wow, the score is actually closer than I thought. Kudos to Costa Rica for making it interesting.

I just want to say my Players To Watch for Costa Rica and Germany scored 4 goals between them.

Listen to Konstant!

Ballack had his best game in a germany shirt.

Big up Kon, good call on Klose, but who else are you gonna pick from Costa Rica! Reasonable match, but dodgy defence germany.

just joking with the ballack, i can't stand the guy.

Ecuador strikes first on a throw in. Flick on header to another header beats the keeper to his right.

Ecuador ices things with a second.

Damn Germany hit a couple bombs in the first game. Lots of people are writing Germany off, but in 2002, we saw a very weak germany make it to the final and they are at home this time around. Never discount the Germans at the World Cup.

I have Brazil beating Germany in the final. God, Poland is a boring team.

too bad Germany won't be playing Poland - that could make for some interesting jokes.

Please stop talking about the final already. No fucking chance that Germany will make the finals from that first performance. Poland were not boring, just frustrated by a reasonable Ecuador performance.

They are in the same group... which means they play each other. Poland really disappointing today.

EDIT: See Harry's post for the exact date.

Pete, getting ready for tomorrow?

I'm all set for Monday... day off of work and hitting a pub for an Irish breakfast before the 11a match!

germany v england will be interesting in round two. i think england will go through and hopefully face an argentina with a rocking riquelme in in the quarters...england gets to the final this year but loses to brazil. england will win the world cup in like 2010.

Hell yeah, but extremely nervous! Good man, get down that pub and cheer us on, i will cheer on your boys. The Paraguay players have been talking shit like it's a boxing match. No problems with the Trinadad & Sweden match, but this one i'm worried.

See, now Sweden is the game that worries me the most for England. They are good enough, and under the radar enough, to present problems.

I thought Poland looked weak and were boring. Initially I was somewhat impressed that the United States beat them at Kaiserslautern in March, but now it doesn't have much worth. I give Ecuador some credit alot of credit, the shaman worked.
