If you like Bejar and slightly more conventional songwriting structures, this is an easy record to like. But the first part's the key.

Its not Jellyfish-style pop, thats for sure. I think it would appeal to fans of progressive rock as much as fans of pop music. Its more rock than Your Blues, I think.

Pat's right, but I dig alot of different kinds of pop. I just can't get through this album. Bejar's lyrics and songwriting are getting less accesible, at least with Destroyer. And the whole album just has a shitty sonic quality to it, even for lo-fi unpolished indie pop. It's a pisser, cause I know he can write a decent song.

Ha...I actually think this is far and away his most accessible set of lyrics, particularly "your blood," which I think has a fine sonic quality to it. Then again, if memory serves, you liked how the Andrew Bird/Eggs album turned out..

With that defense of accessibility in mind, Bejar is the kind of modern, living songwriter who gets sites like this devoted to figuring out all of the references, etc: http://www.deftone.com/destroyer/index. ... r's_Rubies

Me? I think that's spectacular.

Still my overall #1 album of the year.

Same for me, though Frank Black is trying his damndest to dethrone Bejar.

I'm having a hard time getting into this one. I pop it in every now and then hoping that that time it will click but it still hasn't. Not a bad album, certainly, but I'm not understanding all the fuss about it.

You'll probably love the new Slayer then

actually no, don't bother.

unless you'd like to fall asleep within the first few minutes.

baffles me that people are into this, but fair enough.
