An iMac, to be exact. Mrs. pinehurst picked it out. I don't like that ctrl-shift-enter doesn't shortcut me to a website. I don't like change. I am a crochety old fart.

Shit yeah. I've worked on both over the past few years, but given a choice, I'll take the PC.

I feel like mac owning is just a conceit. The 'being different' thing.

"It's true that it isn't as intuitive as a pc. Yeah, I don't have access to a lot of the games and programs I'd like to run. But, I mean, it's white. And, well... Fuck it's a mac; it's just fucking better! Don't you understand that?

it takes me about a week to get used to new keyboard shortcuts.

after using Quark for 10 + years and switching over to InDesign i forgot all the Quark shortcuts after a few weeks.

The very best thing about owning a Mac is that most of the Spyware, invasive-type cookies and viruses that fuck up your computer when surfing the internet, are geared toward a Microsoft environment. They just don't take on a Mac. It's a lot less bullshit to deal with when surfing the net -- either from the cookies themselves, or from having to constantly update your anti-virus software.

I had an ORIGINAL, FIRST-GENERATION iMac (form 1998) and NEVER had an issue with viruses and that crap. Also, I never had to update any anti-virus-type software. My parents are constantly updating their PC.

Plus, for design work there is no better machine than the Mac.

This is bullshit. I worked on Macs in a full-time job for 4 years, and I've done all my freelance work (and currently all of my work) on a PC. I won't even trumpet any PC superiority, but the machines are basically equal (based on configuration, of course). Plus, PCs are much more cost effective and flexible.

A similiarly configured Mac & PC for design will perform pretty much the same, but the PC will cost half as much and run anything you throw at it.

Okay, well...
Maybe I should say that:
"For design work, I've never seen anyone use anything but a Mac"

Howzzat?

For Audio Engineering it used to hold true that Macs were superior to PC. Now, not so much.

I've got my first powerbook, and I like it alot. I don't have any misgivings about using either mac or pc, but not having to worry about viruses is very nice.

I consider myself lucky, because I've been on both enough to go from one to another without skipping a beat. I actually have a Mac & PC in my office, but I use the PC 99% of the time.

When I bought my desktop, I was looking into buying a Mac, but at the time I couldn't justify paying twice as much for a machine without a monitor. I'm not even a Mac hater, I just prefer PCs because I have no problem keeping my system clean, I'm not intersted in all the fancy plastic, and there's gobs and gobs of software out there that is available for me to never use.

It really boils down to who's using the tool, not the tool itself. Robert Quine could play a $30 thrift store guitar better than I could wail on some insanely expensive PRS.

some of the best designers don't know how to use a computer.

99% virus problems are a result of the user's credulity or promiscuous porn-surfing habits. Don't be an idiot, and you won't have to worry about virus definitions.

So the lesson is get a mac for porn surfing.

They really ought to figure that into their marketing scheme.

I was raised on Macs

A MacSE no less...

[img][300:400]http://www.allaboutapple.com/museo/pictures/donazioni/mac_se_fdhdb.jpg[/img]

But when I hit university and needed my own computer I just couldn't afford a Mac.

Gotta say I enjoy being able to hack around in my PC. Open er up and install stuff myself.

Just bought a laptop... could have been a Mac but I just didn't want to fuss with finding new software, etc.

The fact that they are such a "closed system" kinda creeps me out.

I'm a fan of the Mac. I grew up on pc and believed that Mac was for people who wanted to be different for different's sake. My brother-in-law talked me into an ibook and I love it. Very few problems when compared to a pc.
