I just found out a guy I know who i previously thought did okay with the ladies is a 25 year-old virgin. I just didn't see it coming. Weird.

This guy is pretty good looking too (not that i take much notice of mens looks). And he's very intelligent too. WTF?

Apparently he just missed the boat. Nevr got around to it.

He's well on his way to 40-year-old-vrigin status...

anyone else heard of anything like this?

A.C. Green of the Lakers was a virgin until 2002, he was almost 40.
I have met a few arty folks who have maintained celibacy. I don't know if they practice self-love, but they don't date. They could be closet homosexual, but around here that would seem odd, since Lincoln has a high gay per capita population.

Sex is not like ironing or putting in new windows in the shed. You don't just "get around to it."

You'd think. Some people are just naturally asexual, I guess...

a friend of my wife just married a 41 year old virgin. pretty sure he is just denying his homosexuality, but whatever. guess they are already having sexual issues.

so wait. Is it a joke that you have to have sex prior to emotional maturity or you're a closet homosexual or is this a real point of view, exagerated by jokes of sexual identity confusion?

Maybe some people find it important to wait.

Having sex starting at 16 and on and continuing to do so because it's the "normal" thing to do and the idea that "most people do it, so I should too" is about as original an idea as listening to Taking Back Sunday and thinking they do something unique.

Sometimes some Obner points of view amaze me in their irony and hypocrisy.

I just thought it was weird that the guy who i was talking about never did the deed. Because it wouldn't be because he wanted to wait or anything like that. He's just never done it for reasons completely unknown to everyone else.

Not a matter of "not getting around to it." Even the most dedicated abstinist has desires and is aware of sexuality in a way that can't be compared to remembering an appointment or taking time to clean the garage.

A virgin past 21 is likely to be one for one or more of five reasons; on purpose for moral compass or health reasons, lack of confidence/social skills, because they're repulsive, because they're handicapped or impotent, or because they're gay and self-loathing or not wanting to admit their sexuality even to themselves. The sixth would be the rare young adult who's not interested in sex.

Though being a self-loathing, religious, gay, impotant, ugly cripple all at once would likely suck.

I'll cop to "lack of confidence/social skills" and "because they're repulsive."

Lump, you're the drummer for one of the greatest power pop bands of all time. How can that be repulsive?

I couldn't agree more. I've gained a new respect for people who make the choice to wait for marriage, or at the very least until they're in a stable, responsible relationship. Having said that, I don't really buy the "not into sex" argument. Even the most chaste people I know have sexual desires.

The best abstinence people are the ones who don't go around bragging about it. If you're waiting until marriage, good for you. Tell your wife. Don't puff up like Curt Schilling Selling Amway and blather on to all comers about your superior moral reasonings.

Because that's not good.
