I was browsing Youtube and found this clip of the Canadian Jr. National Team fighting with the Soviet team. The Hosers really give the commies a beat down. It happened in 1987, I can't believe it doesn't get more attention on those Most extreme video shows.

I remember watching this live and thinking it was the greatest thing I had ever seen. It got so bad they turned off the lights hoping they would stop.

wow. I would have loved to have watched this live.

It is truly amazing. There is no other word for it. I think I would have been half pissed if I was in attendance though. What was the actual outcome? Did they finish the game?

I don't think they finished the game. If you listen to the commentators toward the end of the video, they say that any sort of fight like that in Jr. Hockey requires the participants be ejected. So neither team would have had enough players to continue.
I'll look it up to be sure.

I haven't found anything yet, but there was a ton of future hockey stars on both teams.
The Soviets had Aleksandr Mogilny and Sergei Fedarov and Theo Fleury played for the Canadians

As I recall, both teams were ejected from the tournament, so neither team won.

A young man's hockey life isn't complete without at least one bench-clearing brawl. I remember a real corker back in grade 8 and a bunch of the parents got involved. The poor ref eventually just stood at center ice and yelled "That's it! The game is over!" like he was auditioning for Slapshot. Weird thing was that that pretty much ended the brawl. It was like everyone suddenly thought "Huh? The game is over? Damn."

Worst part is trying to sort out your gloves and shit out afterwards. It's always done in this sheepish sorta silence.

haha. It would be funny to see a bunch of 8th graders and their parents fighting each other.

I should've been more specific. I saw it live... on tv. The brawl was the end of the game, and the tournament, for both teams.

Yeah, I firgured you meant t.v. And I meant I would have loved to have seen it on t.v., however, if I had been in attendance I would have been half-pissed. I think communication has just occured.

That's even better than Cloutier Vs. Salo.

Pat Burns was the assistant coach, I believe. Canada had gone through a real down period before that year, and beginning the next year Canada started a streak of 5 or 6 straight gold medals.

Thanks for the roster, I didn't realize that Dave McLlwain was on the team, he is married to my brother-in-laws sister, I'll have to ask him about the game, when I next see him.

I remember when this happened. It was pretty embarrassing for the Canadian team. Don Cherry said the Russians deserved it though.
