It's who Gibson is, what he believes and how he made the movie a blockbuster. It ruffled feathers.

Like if some internet-only music release sold 10 million copies AND the artist actively spoke out against the RIAA the whole time.

Which is completely brilliant. The guy essentially made an independent film, and made a mint off of it.

Don't know if it's contreversial but "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was the begining of the PG-13 rating. The system thought it's occultish themes were too dark for the PG crowd.

That list is heavily skewed toward the last 15-20 years.

And yeah, it's inda dumb.
But it's a list, so what did you expect?

Oh, that's a good one. Didn't it totally get snubbed at the Oscars because of the controversy and the pressure from the guy who said it was about him?

'The Battle Over Citizen Kane' = brilliant documenatry

The film engendered controversy (and efforts at suppression in early 1941) before it premiered in New York City on May 1, 1941, because it appeared to fictionalize and caricaturize certain events and individuals in the life of William Randolph Hearst - a powerful newspaper magnate and publisher. The film was accused of drawing remarkable, unflattering, and uncomplimentary parallels (especially in regards to the Susan Alexander Kane character) to real-life.

Yeah, that's where I was remembering it from. I've got the two-disc special edition dvd and it has that doc on disc two.
