From their 1997 "Comeback"

It's a pretty great album and, if you like this song, you will like the album, too.
Easily n par with this year's Rockford.

Check it.

Don't know Cheap Trick at all, but they seem to get mentioned a fair bit in relation to the New Pornos. Is this an accurate comparison? And in what way are they similar? Since I love the New Pornos sugary goodness, should I therefore check out Cheap Trick?

Yeah, I don't really see any similarity at all to the New Pornographers. Cheap Trick are RIYL: Big Star, the Posies, things like that. I don't see Cheap Trick as "sugary."

I'm sure this isn't very representative but "I Want You To Want Me" is definitely sugary. I'm not sure they wrote that though, did they?

Yes they did.

There's a few versions of "I Want You To Want Me". The one that everybody knows is definitely high in sugar content - but there's a version they cut for their debut that has a bit of a mean streak.

Cheap Trick don't sound anything like the New Pornos. Thank god.

Yes, of course, but I'm thinking overall, their music isn't really definable by the word sugary. They're just straight-up rock, with a pop-bent. Even "I Want You To Want Me" isn't sugary in the way that New Pornos is, though.
