As a dude in this occupation for so long who's had to bear through decades worth of 5:30 songs where the chorus is repeated 730 times, I give props to acts like Gnarls Barkley and KT Tunstall for bringing back the under-3 minute track. Hell, brevity is the only thing that made "We Belong Together" even vaguely bearable.

Keep up the short tunes.

Don't forget to remind people that the crappy ones are over faster too.

Edit: I thought DJ's could do their "fade out" when they got tired of a song. Then tell complaining callers that it is one of the radio edits.

It's hard to do this when you voicetrack. Which is what nearly all small market stations do now.

That's weird. Crazy feels much longer than 3 minutes. Not jabbing, just observing.

Must be the ringtone-ization of pop music.

I was watching some kids listen to stuff on an ipod over some speakers at work. They would make it to the first chorus and then skip to the next song - like maybe a minute tops for each song. No song warranted a complete run-through.

I tend to think the best songs are between 6 minutes long and 12 minutes long. Its hard to really get a strong groove, melody and song structure with a slow build and variety in a 3 minute song.

That said, its a lot easier to tolerate a mediocre song when its kept short. And my comment isn't really meant for radio friendly songs most of which are indeed mediocre at best.

Jesus, man.

I know you need this job to eat and support your family Spoon, but if I had to listen to rap-bling and Gnarls Barkley shit all day I'd jump out a 10th story window before lunch.

Actually, what I'd do is lock all the doors and start playing Slayer and Iced Earth or something to cancel out all of that retarded music.

I like the Gnarls Barkley song. But thanks for playing.

The station doesn't play rap. It's middle of the road pop, with an emphasis on oldies.

Man. What are some examples of this? I can only imagine that you listen to a lot of Frank Zappa.
