[Rant]Their high speed internet is $44.95 a month now. I got an offer to go to AOL for $25.90 a month, so I'm all like, hell yeah. So I sign up with AOL. I have to call Earthlink to cancel my service before AOL can be given an appointment time thru Time Warner Cable to set up my new service. So I call Earthlink, and they can't verify my account.
Apparently there is some email address and password for my account that I have no idea what it is, because I just use the internet access, not any of the Earthlink service. The guy says they will try to call me to confirm that I want to cancel my service because without the email and password he has no way of verifying the account. Well when I gave them my home number he said that is not the one in the system. SO THEY ARE GOING TO CALL ME AT MY OLD CELL PHONE NUMBER. He said he has no way of accessing the information to change it or even tell me what number he is going to call. All he could tell me was the number didn't match the one in their system.
He said since they won't be able to call me, I need to write a letter addressed to Earthlink and drop it in the mail to Atlanta. How fucked up is that? I'm sure this is going to go into some huge pile of mail that gets lost. All I will be able to do is hope they get the letter, hope they say "Hey this guy wants to cancel his account so we can stop billing him, that sounds great, we better get on this right away so we can make as little money as possible." as opposed to them saying "Hey this guy wants to cancel, but he can't without our help in digging up his info. I'll put this in my special file of things to never do."

The cable company can't cancel it because they don't hold the actual billing, which is thru Earthlink.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH![/Rant]

If you pay on your card i would advise you to cancel the card.

My previous internet provider are taking me to court. I cancelled over 2 years ago and they continued charging me for 3 months after my cancellation. Of course i did not keep a copy of the email that i originally sent to cancel the account, nor to did i 'tape' a recording of the phone call that i made to back up my cancellation email.

No doubt that letter will get lost.

This IS the short version.
I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Time Warner, then AOL, then Time Warner, then Earthlink, and then Time Warner.

Earthlink blows... they capped my DL speed by 100K, then claimed that it was SBC's fault. I cancelled and went to Comcast the next day.

This is the truth. Disorganized and inconsistant, mostly crappy service, with some completely retarded billing and customer service policies.

I'm sure AOL is much better. ;)

Edit: I'm going for cost not service.
