"Swing away, Merril."

Creepy as ever. What a great movie.

P.S. "Lionel Prichard and the Wolfington brothers" has GOT to become the name of someone's band.

I love how this dude's movies are all about building up to a horribly crappy, disappointing conclusion.

Signs was entertaining for the first 2/3 or so, but it had me laughing at it (in a really bad way) at the end.

So if Aliens really invaded that would be better?

Geez, where do I start?

Let's just say if everything in the movie didn't add up to someone swinging a bat at some glasses of water, that might have been better. I thought the whole "Swing away, Merrill" thing was retarded, and the aliens themselves were pretty sucky in a variety of ways. It's been a long time since I've seen it, though, so there's probably more I'm not thinking of.

Maybe you would prefer if Bruckheimer had a hand in it, and fucking Wil Smith and Tom Cruise showed up with the calvary for an all-out, sense-shattering, ear-rattling alien attack scene!

I must only like the big budget Hollywood blockbuster treatment since that's obviously the only alternative to M. Night Shmalayan's (I don't give a fuck if I spelled it right) brilliant take on suspense thrillers.

ummm... i don't know if signs is perfect for the arthouse, exactly. it's not like mel gibson isn't a version of tom cruise. and m night is as predictible and lame as bruckheimer if you ask me.

agreed on the arthouse. But I think Shyamalan's style is considerably different from Bruckheimer's. It's like the difference between a menacing glare and getting hit over the head with a bat.

Did they actually shoot that TV series "Hack" there? I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes. Enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed Signs. Especially the ending. I pretty psyched about Lady in the Water, though I'm not really sure about the bear-bush thing.

Pour water on them. how lame. Like the creatures would have been able to survive in humid climates, or fight a sweaty human, or survive a rain. Shit. If they invaded they would have been extinct so fast it would have been laughable.

Me, too. I think we're the only ones, though. Most people think that's actually his worst, but I love it. The rest of his movies are turds, though.

The whole "well if water kills them how come they don't die straight away from all the water vapour in the air" thing ruined it for me.
