This is an outrage

Congratulations to Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey.

He has snuck in under the radar screen the anti-Bush, anti-America indie-rocker Conor Oberst to be dancing on the memories of our fallen heroes at a concert at Memorial Park on Saturday.

We veterans not only should protest Mr. Oberst's presence but also should be screaming "Not in our park" at the top of our lungs. What has happened to us?

I go to Memorial Park every so often to visit those on the big wall who gave me the chance to live in a free country. I also visit a couple of veterans who were brothers in Vietnam.

I hope our country, and especially our community, has not grown so complacent that we welcome on our hallowed ground the likes of Conor Oberst without at least some regret of his presence.
John P. Larsen, Elkhorn, Neb.

I think I'm going to change a few words and try to keep Conor out of the Bowery.

This is nothing that angers me more than the idea that if you don't support Bush or the war in Iraq, it makes you anti-American. It amazes me the sheer quantity of people that buy into this.

Seriously. That little bitch is ALWAYS going through my fridge. It's got to where I don't even bother keeping Capri Suns on hand.

I thought he was keeping his place in NYC though.

I hear he's actually a pretty cool guy.

But that really shouldn't stop Haq from getting him banned. Why stop at the Bowery?

Well, it's not that I want to stop there. I just need to build a grassroots movement. Maybe I can get MoveOn.org to distribute a video with Moby in it.

I would just say to the guy, "Hey, you realize it's conor oberst, and that he has as much effect on the social climate as a 9 year old trying to open a jar of pickles, right?"

And you like to drink and dress in women's clothes.

You two should really get together sometime. I'm sure we can both make this happen, but only if you want it to.

Yep. Like my dad says about flag burning: "I always thought I fought for the rights of people TO burn the flag."

He might be keeping his place, but from what I know, his new house is basically next to Mike Mogis's house and that there are rumors that Mogis is going to build a studio inside now that the City of Lincoln evicted him and his brother from Presto! Studios so that they can build an overpass.

I've only talked with him briefly. He has never been a douche around me, but his whiney political statements while being drunked/coked up are a little annoying. Plus, he's a Vegan, and I don't trust those people.

Everyone's political statements are probably whiney to somebody though.

Oberst gets to continue making his music in the end. That's probably the real tragedy.
