Not sure if it's just a rumour, but definitely worth checking out:

Saw this on another board:

British agit-folk-rocker Billy Bragg has removed songs from his MySpace page over concerns that they could be used elsewhere without his permission.

While fans can still listen to and download music from Bragg's own site, his office posted this blog message about MySpace's terms having the potential to exploit artists: "Someone who we work with was bright enough to read the small print of the MySpace terms and conditions and found that once an artist posts up any content (including songs), it then belongs to My Space (AKA Rupert Murdoch) and they can do what they want with it, throughout the world without payng the artist."

The blog entry includes the clause in the MySpace agreement which has Bragg's people worried, and urges fans to take action to try and get it changed.

"We are hoping to start a small revolution (in true Bragg style) to try and put a stop to this. You can do your bit by posting out a bulletin to all your friends, esp artists, and badgering Tom with e-mails letting him know how unfair this clause is (not least because you can't hear Billy on here anymore!)."

"There are four words I never like to see together — 'royalty free worldwide licence,'" Bragg told Britain's Independent newspaper. "The alarm bells start ringing.

"The rights you are giving to MySpace are above and beyond anything you would give to a record company."

MySpace claims that musicians keep their copyright even if their songs are posted on the site and that the clause is included in the agreement to allow the music to be used on MySpace in the way the artist intends.

"Because the legalese has caused some confusion, we are at work clarifying it to make very clear that MySpace is not seeking a licence to do anything with an artist's work other than allow it to be shared in the manner the artist intends," said a statement released by MySpace.

"Putting music on MySpace does not give us the right to sell it. The musicians own their content and can do with it as they wish."
