Cech is unreal right now.

It could have been 4-0. Ghana looked so much faster (except for Rosicky). Amazing... ya just never know.

USA 2-1 over Italia.

This is the last info on Baros that i have seen. Doubtful for whole tournament, which is a bummer but who knows.

Baros and Koller are supposed to be fit for the Quarter Finals...if the Czech Republic make it that far.

De Rossi should get a five match ban so he doesn't play in this tournament again.

Controversial decisions tonight.

1. Mastreoni's tackle was a bad one but I don't think it was a straight red.

2. Pope can have no complaint about his sending off.

3. McBride was clearly offside and 'active', so the referee was correct to rule out the goal.

I'm a little surprised how much smoke the ABC/Espn announcers seem to be blowing up USA's ass right now. Keller had a good game and they survived some controversial calls but they were extremely lucky to get that one fluck score. They could have easily lost 1-0. I don't see any reason for optimism given how Ghana played this am.

The straight red on Mastroeni was atrocious. They kept calling it a make-up call, but I've always considered make-up calls to be calls given by a referee when they feel they may have make a mistake on an earlier call. That's far from the truth, as the elbow to McBride was viscious. Match should have finished with each team a man down. Pope deserved his and has played horribly in both games, imo. I'm glad he won't be around for the Ghana match.

My biggest question was why no Eddie Johnson? The USA players were obviously exhausted, as were the Italians. McBride was serving no purpose as a target man for Keller's clearing kicks. The only way a could see the US getting a late goal was on a long run by a fast man against a tired Italian defense. Donovan threatened it a few times, but never could finish it off.

Yeah, no Johnson was a mystery, but damn fun game to watch. Really thought that Beasley goal was gonna take all 3 points. Just really happy to see the team make a better impression and play their hearts out.

Advancing is no longer out of the question.

And, which group is truly the group of death looks like it may indeed be this one as both favorites are in trouble with chaos reigning until the last games while the group with Holland and Argentina has gone easily to the favorites.

Respect for the US for getting a draw. I have no idea why the fuck De Rossi should get a red. Ludicrous. Dude should get a medal for elbowing a yank in the face.

11 v 11 the Italians would of won that comfortably in the end, even though they played poorly. Usa, no pace, no movement. Hell they remind me of England.

Big plus for me was finding out that the americans found it too tiresome to keep calling it Kaiserslautern and had decided to rename it K-town. Bwahaha.

Luck? Well... hands of God shit always in World Cup play. Yep, US were lucky and also played very gutsy, tough football. Controled the game for the first third. And mostly outplayed the superior Italians while being down 10-9.

Mastroeni's red card was nuts. But then the calls were inconsistent... some offsides on Italy weren't...

1. Claudia Reyna needs not to be on the field.
2. Beasely, fast with fresh legs, was still is a zero even on his precious left side. Passing backward timidly.
3. Johnson (or Wolff, or Ching of SOMEBODY) not coming in at the end is crazy. There is no explanation.
4. Gooch is MVP.
5. Italy beats CR, we beat Ghana, we move on to next round. This is much better position than we've any right to hope for.
6. I can't tell you the number of World Cup blog postings in the last hour that have had "if we hadn't save your ass in WWII..." shit. Hilarious.

Was That directed at MEEEE? EDIT- It must be me, you use the hand of god & refer to the US instead of we, so it can't be directed at a US supporter. If so...Luck, who said you were lucky? I thought you deserved a draw from that 90 mins.

Cheers for bringing the war into it. Classic. bwahaha. Your not used to this footie banter are you? You wait till England get knocked out in the 2nd round and Darrin has his say.

Huh? No it wasn't directed at you.

Football banter? I am 55 years old and been a staunch Celtic fan for 40 years... with good Ranger friends. Nah, not used to football banter...

Oh, and despite England excrutiatingly boring play, they (along with Mexico) are the team I am pulling for most...

Actually seeing that Mastreoni tackle again, well, maybe a red card wasn't such a bad decision.

You know, I just saw it again in slow motion... cleats up... it was borderline. You have a point. Surely a yellow of course. But he did get a bit of the ball... Plenty of similar tackles in play so far this year getting yellow or simple fouls...

I'm the one that said US were lucky...after all the one goal was a fluke deflection off one of the Italians, rather than being a solid straight shot on goal.

You don't have to be a fuzzy foreigner to think that.

Goddammit Konstant! God Bless Ya but FUCK! That was the biggest piece of shit call I have ever seen in my fucking life. The Americans are already behind the 8 ball. Do we have to fight the refs too?

mastreoni was pretty much a straight red, although arguable (but given how these kindda fouls have been called thus far in teh tournament, fair)

pope's sending off was a very poor call, esp given his first yellow was for a bullshit weak holding off, and that considering he hadn't made any other major fouls till the sending off. in itself the second foul was a yellow (whereas the first foul wasnt), but stupid ass refs should obviously weigh in the whole game for a player (and the severity of the first yellow foul) if he has to consider sending someone off with a second yellow.

So, Brazil is trying to give this game away. The Aussies shouldnt be within two goals, much less down 1-0 with three (I counted) golden chances to tie in the last ten minutes.

And there you go...you can only allow the opposition so much time in your own box. It looked like a high school game out there.

I think the important thing is the U.S. got over their Mickelson block on Euro-soil. And considering how the match went down and who it went down with, it's pretty impressive. Especially considering how everyone here was calling this team gutless. Much props to the U.S. team and it was one of the biggest displays of will in sports I've ever seen.
