most of the field is pretty yawn-inducing. and i can't think of anybody that would beat mccain if he's the republican nominee.

I can see how no one would take a shine to Warner...Harvard Law grad, worked at the DNC after that, putzed around and started a little company called NEXTEL...ran for Senate and lost, ran for Gov and won. IN VIRGINIA.

That's who I'd support as the Anti-Hil.

But I can't make myself hate Hilary...don't really know what all the fuss is about her. But I think she would be better served to stay in the Senate, and amass real power, as opposed to marshalling all the forces of evil against her.

Plus, that $40-$50 mil would do some great things for local and state party-building..but no one REALLY wants to do that anyway.

Let me try this.... in 1968 "the average Joe could give a rat's ass about smoking in public..."

While the mongerist, anti-social destructoid might say that... a cultural paradigm has radically altered.

Nothing like ideas whose time has come.

of course, that same article says that of those who people -would- vote for, clinton leads that too (22%).

That's not far off of what percentage of the eligible voting public Bill got in the 1992 & 1996 Presidential elections.

warner looks really good on paper, but the few times i've seen him speak he hasn't been very impressive. definitely nowhere near as charismatic as somebody like mccain. and he has zero foreign policy experience, which i can see being a big deal in 2008. out of the field, i think he's got the best shot, but if mccain is the republican nominee he'll be awful tough to beat.

I think that Warner's the obvious nominee unless he gets caught with a dead girl or a live boy in his hotel room.

I don't think Jeb Bush would be any dumber than nominating Bill Frist, whom I thought was leading the latest poll for possible Republican Candidates.
It will kill me if the Republicans nominate a Senator like Frist and squeek out a victory.
I think Jeb Bush is a twit and would probably have more cronies in his cabinet than his brother Dubya, but a Republican Governor from a state with a decent latino population was a key to success eight years ago.

While I'm sure there are worse candidates than Jeb (Frist is not among them), we aren't a monarchy and both Bushs were/are horrible presidents.

I completely agree with you. I don't want another Bush, and I don't really want another Clinton. I'd rather have them try to get Bill a third term, if they really wanted a Clinton in office. I'm all about new blood with no ties to the Bush and Clinton years.

Hell, after Gore & Kerry, that should qualify him as Front Runner.

Fuck, I've been following him since '01, and I have never heard him speak, nor seen him in person, so you could be on to something...

he was a Congressman from a safe Dem seat for 18 years, 14 of them under a dem majority, I would suspect that analyzing 1 year worth of votes would be enough to fuck him.

AND, I like him...but how is a dude named Bill Richardson gonna represent for DEM MEXES?!

I'd rather him than Bayh or Vilsack or Edwards, doe.

Yes. Those people refer to themselves as "Democrats", and by looking at their recent run of nominees, that pretty much nails McCain's Presidential coffin.

Well, then the Repubs will just have a guy dressed like Randolph Duke off to the side of the debate stage, waving a bottle and saying "Whiiiiskkeeeyy!"

and then offer to trade him Manhattan Island for $13 worth of useless beads and trinkets.
