iTunes won't do it. You need to use other software like anapod or ephpod.

If you have a Mac, there is an internal work-around you can take advantage of by searching the invisible files on your iPod without having to download another program. I can post it if you're interested, it works great but it's a little long.

ok, turns out iPod Access costs money...EphPod is free but the XP version requires MacOpener, which is not, and Anapod is just a substitute for iTunes......so are there any FREE programs for a stingy ol' bastard like me?

Haven't tried it myself yet, but I think Ipod Agent will do it. It's free.

This is what I use. It has a free version, but after every 200-250 songs you d/l from your ipod to you computer it will ask you do buy the software...you can just hit no and continue d/ling another 250 songs in which it will query you again. Kinda sucks, but it's free. If you pay 5 euros it won't query you during your d/l. hope it helps.

Ii have this, and it rules. Not only can you pull songs back to itunes, but if you want to pull an album or playlist, you can just drag the files directly to the desktop, and it will create a folder for you and everything...rules.

Resurecting this thread because I'm a moran and had downloaded all my stuff onto an external seagate drive that no longer works and I didn't have my stuff backed up. I'm wanting to upload what's on my ipod back to my PC (running windows xp). Checking to see if there's any updates on this thread of what you would suggest using to transfer my files from my ipod back to my pc based on your experience. Thanks.

I use ipodutil all the time. I'm using it right now in fact...

But does, anyone have a good solution for converting DVD to avi/mp4? Specifically, ripping (and knowing how to find out) specific chapters? I want to rip a few videos from a Matador DVD, but the chapter titles/etc don't really match up with anything...at least I can't understand what they match up with.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure KPH is a Mac guy. DVD Decrypter is the most versatile PC ripper. I mod the support forum for Videora's ipod converter. It's free and good for DVD rips if you follow directions. Pretty steep learning curve if you run into problems, though. Still, I'm a fan.

When you hook the ipod up at work it should show up in windows explorer as a thumb drive/ hard drive. You can copy files using this at work. (They won't show up as files you can listen to, unless you copy them a second time in iTunes, but then you are taking up twice the disk space.) Do you get a similar thumb drive possibility when you connect the ipod to your Mac at home? This is the easiest way to transfer files using the ipod.

This program is the best, and totally worth the money. Everyone should pony up the $ and get it.

Do it now: www.ipodaccess.com

And the developer is my brother.
