Is there anyone even close to being on his level? I don't think so.

During the show, they've got a camera out on 53rd Street and they're spraying people with a jet spray. And he's talking to them through a microphone telling them to pick up some trash on the sidewalk.

Halfway through the top ten list, he says "forget it. I'll do it myself.", gets up, walks right out of the studio and the building, down the street, through crowds of people standing around staring at him, and starts picking the trash up and asking people to help him.

I have always felt that he was not very funny. Leaps and bounds funnier than Leno though, so I'll give him that. But, if he's stll around when Conan takes over he's going to die a slow painful death.

I used to be really into Conan but he just gets on my nerves now.

Every episode is pretty much the same. The segments like the new team mascots and especially If They Mated aren't very funny. And his habit of continually drawing attention back to himself gets old.

Somebody will be telling a story and he'll say "oh really, because when I was in highschool..." or "I'm so pale..." or "check out my hair" or make some weird noises or hand motions. Ehh.

this is the main reason why i stopped watching conan regularly. it hit me like a hammer one day, "whoa, everything is about conan - even the interviews." he's a creature of habit. even his warm-ups during tapings are canned.

When Ahnold comes on that TV screen though, all is forgiven.

i really have a hard time believing that Letterman is much different. He may not do the self-deprecation thing like Conan but he is just as mundane and repetetive as Conan is. It's their thing. Instead of going on and on about his pale skin, Letterman just rambles incoherently and then looks at the camera and does some weird, "haha" or something. The quick wit of Conan is what gets me. I think his on the spot humor is funnier to me than Letterman.

But, I don't want to hijack this sucker and make it an argument about conan and letterman. Or is it too late? :)

From reading that, I have absolutely no idea whether you are endorsing him or opposing him.

I just thought it was really cool that he'd spontaneously get up from his desk and leave the building just to pick up some garbage off the street. And people on the street recognized him and were high fiving him and trying to shake his hand and he shook their hand and said "help me pick this up".

I just really couldn't see Leno or Conan doing this sort of thing at all.

I feel the saaaaaame way. Stopped watching him a long time ago.

Speaking of Leno, he writes a column for Popular Mechanics once in a while. If you thought his show was bad, you should read this thing. It sounds as though a teenager wrote it, and it's not very funny at all. Amazing what a few hundred "comedy" writers can do if you have a TV show.

Everybody who's on TV daily sucks balls. Except, Letterman annoys me less. And Mansbridge too.

Conan couldnt hold Letterman's jock and that will be glaringly apparent when he moves to 11:35--I just dont see him as a talented enough guy to hold that down...

Leno is definitely not my cup of tea but I do believe that he works hard and he obviously appeals to somebody since he usually gets the better ratings.

Yeah, I was pretty much in stitches this morning watching the garbagemen.

Even though I rarely watch Dave anymore, he was once the best thing on network TV. Even if he dies a slow painful death, those first few years when I was in high school and college he was THE man. White man, anyway.

I used to love Dave, but I think he has gotten a little "older" and stiffer.
He isn't as spontaneous as he used to be.

Conan on the other hand is brilliant at improvising on what the guest say. I love it when he goes out to interview/ meet people. That week he took a trip to Canada is still my favorite week ever.

I'd take Lettermen over most of them. Conan is brutal for his repetition, particularly his intro:

"Okay, Conan, walk in, do a little funny dance, say something in a high falsetto, comment on how weird the audience sounds, address Max Weinberg, begin monologue."

That being said, I did enjoy his recent trip to Finland.

Letterman used to be great in his old time slot through the eighties. That show was miles above Conan and he obviously didn't play into celebrity stroking and sticking to the interview script.

Now he seems like he's usually bored and defeated by the whole game. I can't watch the man anymore.

Leno is pure shit, though.

ok. this is a joke, right? Carson Daly is the biggest tool of them all. On top of that he just rips off personality and ideas from the other late night hosts, and then does them worse.

Cool musical guests though. But as a host he is atrocious.

Conan will be much different when he has to start catering to a 11:30 crowd....It'll be a much safer tamer show....

Agree 100% . And it's a shame, too...because the man was a HUGE influence on me in my teens/20's.

But that thing he hosts now is a shell of its former self. Just horrible.

At least I still have my old tapes.

We do all agree that The Late Shift is one of the best made for TV movies EVER, right?

Is Kimmel's show any good?

They don't show it in ATL so I've never actually seen it.
