My boss has had their album cranked in the office next to mine for the last 30 minutes or so. This might actually be worse than listening to Santana. I've very tempted to break something right now.

For the second time in as many days, BROOKS AND DUNN is annoying the SHIT out me. First at home, neighbours blasting it loud enough to wake me on a Sunday morning and now at work, my country loving labgirl is cranking it on her laptop.

I like Los Lonely Boys. Good to put on when someone is over who hates all my indiedork shit. Classy dudes, good guitarist.

There's just something about their music that grinds me. I don't deny that the guitar player is good and they seem like stand up guys but I hate their music. It is headache inducing for me.

Nail In Coffin (for squirrgle):

Radio interview / promo spot for them, from 105.5 locally...

one of the bandmembers - "We like to think of it as, like, like a musical burrito, ...we roll up some blues and some salsa and stuff, and we just hope everyone takes a bite."

= done. That, and the fluffiness of it, just kills it. Dead.

The guy can play guitar, but I saw them recently on a show playing live, and he low-balled his gear / tone. I was shocked. Guy is right up Stevie's alley, but the amp he was using was / sounded cheapish. If you're gonna be that guy, and you play blues-influenced crappop, at least nail the tone live. You don't see professional cyclists riding the Tour on Huffy's. You got a contract... go spend $1500 on a nice amp goddammit.

It was even worse with the accent... "Burrrrit-to"

Worse with "the accent?" You mean a Spanish speaker trilling an "r" in Spanish word? What... you probably like Freedom Fries too.

I like Los Lonely Boys... saw them live with a bunch of the clerical staff here in my office. A pleasure a little too working class for this board, but the guy can play the guitar and they sing beautifully and are very tight. But then I still can listen to Carlos and feel the soul...

1. Don't turn this into Squirrgle-as-Imperialist, please Harry. Freedom Fries are the domain of my wife's racist grandfather.
2. They're talented. That just means they have great tools with which to build. What they're choosing to build, TO ME, seems like disposable pop. Kinda like taking top-shelf, fresh ingredients and making spaghetti-ohs. It strikes me as a bit of a shame, given their singing / playing abilities.

They're scrappy underdogs, and I can see that winning them a lot of points with people, but the music doesn't sit well with me, and his really cheesy analogy (accent not included) just went across a line for me.

Sorry Har. Continued respect.

shits waaaay played out, but you could do far far worse as far as light rock/adult contemporary pop stuff goes. i'd rather have my square uncle bumping this stuff than the eagles.

Nah... you are on the side of righteousness as far as I know you. All good.

But I know people in LA who in the 60's were literally hit on the hands with rulers for having "accents." And then we get lame housekeeper jokes... when people get all white bourgeois in their pseudo-humorous distancing of the Other, I gotta stand and testify. My scripts. My path. My bad.

...I think my comment on the accent stemmed from the repetition of the promo spot on radio here, too... hard to explain, but hearing the actual sentence was annoying, but hearing such a perfect pronunciation of "burrito" used for such ill was just... wronger somehow. Plus it was on every few hours, every day, over 'n over. Much like their singles.

I just found out that "How Far is Heaven?" is a Los Lonely Boys song. There is no way people like this song. It is seriously the definition of Adult Contemporary.

The opening guitar lick has the same effect on me as Santana's "Smooth." When it starts I'm instantly in a bad mood.

I don't mind it.
Guess I must be a contemporary adult.

I've heard a few times, I don't mind it either. I can think of far more great crimes than adult contemporary.

That's only because you don't order the extra spicy.

Are you sure? Maybe you're so fixated on your pie that you're missing the obvious crimes around you.

But my hearing was unmercifully attuned to my surroundings, and I didn't hear any molesting sounds.
