My friend/lady friend is trying to choreograph a modern dance to some instrumental music. I have compiled some songs that I think would be good, but my catalog is limited in areas. I don't have anything too specific but it is not to be something instrumental like Russian Circles, but more like Helios or Eluvium.

There is an option for something a bit more "active" and more exciting than the previous artists mentioned. And, I am open to some suggestions of songs with lyrics, but it's gotta be pretty low key lyrically. The following is a list of songs I have suggested already:

**If you suggest something I would appreciate a coded YSI if it is a song I don't have access to**

Eluvium - Perfect Neglect in a Field of Statues
Goldmund - Larrows of the Field
Goldmund - Door of our Home
The Album Leaf - Auras
Anathallo - Yuki! Yuki! Yuki! (this would be used in combination with other songs)
Helios - Emancipation
Helios - Sons of Light and Darkness
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Mogwai - Friend of the Night
Rachel's - Rhine and Courtesan
The Appleseed Cast - Strings
The Appleseed Cast - Sunset Drama King
The Radio Department - It's Personal

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if it would go with your mix...

but peter gabriel's passion disc (all instrumental) has some wicked ass songs - one being "a different drum"

Cool. Thanks. And for those of you who suggested things, lucky for you I don't own ANY of it. So, you all get to PM me YSI's. Thanks. :)

David Bowie - Chant Of The Ever Circling Skeletal Family

Yes, I'm serious. It'd be one fucked up modern dance performance though.

So, is this like the kind of dance that the landlord guy was doing in The Big Lebowski?

Will you be giving her notes?

True, but go with The Wedding Present's cover.

1. Don't know the movie well enough to remember.
2. Dance is, how should i say, not my area of expertise.

Agains I don't know the song. Definitely would love a YSI.

And the suggestions just have to be useable. I don't care if they're slow and soft like Eluvium and Helios. Those are just the songs i have that I think would be useable. I am open to much more than that.

YSI's RIGHT NOW! :)

Two from Michael Brook's amazing album, Live at the Aquarium - "Ultramarine" and "Lakbossa." Dude plays all of this live, mostly on guitar (and entirely on guitar for "Ultramarine.") This was a pretty amazing feat for the time - 1992 - when it wasn't quite so easy to just queue stuff up to play along with you. This, by the way, is the guy who gave the Edge that chimy, echo-y guitar sound. You may recall hearing about the "infinite guitar." This is the guy who created it. Two good tracks for modern dance, I think.

I need to learn how to do the upload and do the whole YSI thang...maybe you could find something by these artists on Soulseek...

Dif Juz (instrumental shoe-gazery stuff but sort of 4AD mod-Jazz)

Tuatara or Dead Can Dance (world music-y with lots of really interesting instrumentation and tempo changes)

Dirty Three (Aussie violin rock with neo-Southern rock feel)

Muslimgauze i think was an excellent suggestion...if your Dancer friend is looking for something political.
The Durutti Column - Someone Else's Party would be gorgeous and slow and sad
battles - Dance (of course), Tras, or any of their other beat inspired tracks
Four Tet - Rounds
Caribou - The Milk Of Human Kindness

Or just steal the idea of Menomena and use their 'Under and Hour' album which is a) just under an hour (they are no goddamn liars) and b) written for a dance troupe
