Looks like they're playing a benefit for the Harvey family to celebrate Plan 9's 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, we're out o' town this weekend and can't pick up tix. Shite!

Drive By Truckers Kick Off Plan 9's 25th Anniversary!

Plan 9 Music is pleased to announce the first in a series of live performances to celebrate its 25th anniversary year. Drive By Truckers will perform at Plan 9's Carytown location on Thursday, July 13th at 10pm, all ages welcome. This live performance will be a full show by the band in the store's "small club" setting and will be recorded for future release. Tickets to the show are $25 each and will go on sale at all Plan 9 locations on Saturday, June 24th at 10am. All proceeds will benefit the Bryan and Kathryn Harvey Family Memorial Endowment.

Drive By Truckers released their seventh album, "A Blessing and a Curse," earlier this year. Appearing on Spin Magazine's "Essential Southern Rock" list, the Truckers offer equal parts back porch historians, runaway drunken firecrackers, and poets of the hard life and how to live it. A Blessing and a Curse takes in all the elements that make them great and condenses them into the tightest, hardest rocking set of songs they've yet to produce. Their influences in the past have been immortalized in song, but here we see them integrated into the songs.

My advice to you is to cancel whatever it is you have going on out of town and go to this.

The Stroker Ace will find you if you don't.

I'll be in town the night o' the show...I just won't be here when tix go on sale this Saturday morning. Being such a small show, tix'll go quick too...time to have a little chat with the Mrs.

You should go to that show and tell them in person so they can kick your miserable ass.

I just can't see paying 25 bucks to see a band in a record store, benefit or no benefit.

they're a hell of a lot better than the majority of the music you listen to.

Thanks mom. What matrix did you consult to compare the music I listen to versus DBT? Also, where did you find an exhaustive list of the music I listen to to make the wonderful sweeping generalization that they are better than the "majority" of the music I listen to?

have any of you ever been to the Byrd Park Pump House? It's really cool. I just stumbled by it today but there are all these trails and canals and stuff to wander around, and the building (where the old pumps were on the first floor, with a dance floor on the second) looks awesome, even if you can't go inside:Image.

My wife and I were walking around it, thinking "man, if someone could buy this and refurbish it, how sweet would it be?" answer: real sweet.

I figured out today why there's not much going on back there- I was running and looking for a trail back there, when i noticed that there was a surprisingly large number of older duders in improper clothing mucking about on the trails in dockers and deck shoes and shit, and then suffice it to say that I discovered that it's one of those parks where old duders go to bang other random duders, and the looks that I got really creeped me out, like how a 16 year old girl would feel if she suddenly realized that she was in a strip club or maybe a congressman's office. it's a shame too, it's a pretty cool place.
