I think it's cool to street team for fan sites and good bands.

Yeah, this record will be Obner's number one.

Good looking site and glad to see you again DrJimmy.

Exactly. So what is the point of street teaming if we all know the band/record.

The words of encouragement he gets here balances out the words of hate he gets on other boards?

Street teaming is street teaming.

I guess I'm not street teaming for the band as much as I am for the fansite. Trying to help get it going.

Anyway, check out www.arcadefire.net to see video clips of their secret show last night in SF. Covers of Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper.

Funeral, after 4 months of release, has debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #169 with 6,546 albums sold, bringing it’s total to 53,119 copies. It jumped from 29-13 last week on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and 34-21 on the Top Independent Albums tally.

They seem so big but 50,000 is nothing.

50,000 is nothing and yet we've heard so much buzz. I think it shows how small indie rock buzz really is. In the grand scheme of things, there really aren't that many of us who like this kind of music. Sad but true.

Yeah, that was my point. It sounds like the biggest thing in the world but is just getting its legs. With all the hype on end of year lists, it is just now really getting discovered and the reason why the huge spike in sales. It hasn’t even come out in the UK yet and will never sell a huge number but will get respectable numbers.

The reason why I posted that info is because indie is just now coming into it own and is driving the increase in market shares. When the Strokes, White Stripes and Hives kind of started it a few years ago none of them sold a million records. Now you have Modest Mouse, Killers and I’m sure others who have sold over a million. Franz Ferdinand over a half million and a radio station in Los Angeles (#1 radio market in the world) that has a commercial indie rock station.

There are more bands today than ever, so sales are spread out more and causing the major to do business differently. Indie labels are doing just fine.

I have no idea why I went off like that, but I did.

Doesn't "Rock" include everything from Motorhead to Madonna? It's a huge category full of a dozen subcategories.

Motorhead = Rock
Madonna = Pop

I would like to see market share for 2004. U2 is only a few weeks old and has sold over 3 million copies.

You are right it is not indie that has a 25% market share. I just bet it was more successful in 2004 than any other year in the 2000's. 2005 is going to be really big for indie commerical wise.

You are right it is small but not that small.
