 Post subject: Are there any bands you discovered THROUGH tribute records?

I discovered Roky Erickson through the excellent Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye from 1990.
And I am very happy that I heard about that sucker.

Listening to it today gave me the idea for this thread.

I can't say that I have from an official "tribute" album but I did, many years ago, learn about artists through listening to This Mortal Coil who covered Roy Harper, Tim Buckley, Chris Bell, etc.

They were no discovery in the true sense, but more in the Christopher Columbus sense (i.e. they were new to me).
