Yeah it is. Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Turns out she and her best friend were at her apartment for dinner Monday night. They went outside to smoke and locked themselves out. Alex decided to get back through the kitchen window on the second floor. She slipped and fell two stories onto the basement stairwell. Her head hit concrete steps and basically crushed her brain stem. You don't come back from that.

Her mother and sisters are turning off the life support machines tomorrow, so I got to see her today. She looked peaceful. I told her that she is an amazing and beautiful soul (which she is), and that I was extremely blessed to have known her. I wished her well in whatever is next for her. I told her I would miss her, and that I love her.

A bunch of us met in Hyde Park today to just sit in lawn chairs and check in. Two dudes left and came back with a case and a few bottles of wine. In all, there were about 15-20 that showed just to make sure that other mutual friends were doing OK. It's a shame that it takes something like this to draw people together, but that's the reality. It was a bit too Big Chill for my liking (as much as I love that film).

I've been dealing with a lot of emotional stuff (relationship dramas, et al.) this month. While some good has come from it, most of my waking hours have been pretty stressful and anxious. After today, all that negativity and catatrophizing seems pretty irrelevant.

My prayers and condolences go out to her, her family, and her friends...especially you, Colin. Everytime I hear about someone dying so young, it makes me realize I don't think I could survive the loss of one of my children.
