its amazing how many bands there are right now that have that neutral milk hotel sound. i dont even like NMH that much but hell, a lot of bands sound a hell of a lot like them with dramatic vocals, etc (band of horses, MMJ, modest mouse, clap your hands, etc, etc)

I hear nothing of a NMH sound in BOH. Not even a little. Care to explain further?

i don't really see it either....in any of the bands mentioned...especially Modest Mouse MM had two albums out before ITAOTS....unless you think they were inspired by on avery island.....i don't see it.

It's probably not so much the fault of NMH, but moreso Phil Donahue and Alan Alda.

Shit, I just got this and I wish I would of listened to you all sooner. I really need to get over my prejudice against any band or song that has the word 'horse' in it. this album is solid.

Still top five so far.

I've probably all ready said something like that in this thread, but I'm lazy and do not care to look back.

Go music, go.

I listened to this again on the drive to work this morning. Still a great record, though there seems to be an inordinate amount of love for "The Funeral" as standout track. I would rank (in this order) "Wicked Gil," "Our Swords," "Weed Party," and "The Great Salt Lake" ALL ahead of "The Funeral." It's a good song, but I like those others better.

Me too. "The Funeral" definitely suffers from "The Rat" syndrome.

Surprisingly, Virgin was all sold out of this. The only other time this happened was when the Arcade Fire released their album. Are the Band of Horses as huge as The Arcade Fire?

It's still not on eMusic. This means I may have to actually buy the physical CD.

For someone reason, this dudes voice really, really reminds me of supertramp's 'breakfast in america'. anyone else think so, or is anyone at least willing to admit to being familiar with breakfast in america?

I just saw that "Funeral" video, and it's pretty awesome.

3 months later.
