"a hummer"
"really? is it expensive to fill it up with gas?"
"What?"
"The hummer, your car."
"oh oh , i thought you were asking me what i was hoping for later tonight in the back of my car."

it would never occur to me to ask about a car but i have lived in cities forever. that said, I would ask in the context of you talking about your car and me saying "oh what kind" so I could imagine your story better. In fact, a fancy car would be a strike against you bc I would see you as someone who is IN to cars and therefore someone who I would not have much in common with.

that said, I literallyl know nothing about cars. YOu ask what kind we have and I say "a silver one" ha ha

Sometimes women just want to chit chat and do small talk on first dates and may ask about your car just to get to know you better. Most times though, they want to know what sort of car you'll be driving them around in. Dump the latter.

Not a car person, really. I finally got my first nice ride this past year, in fact.

But I will say I was MIGHTY impressed the first time FEMGAR drove me somewhere and ol girl was driving a Mercedes.

I dont know, this was a common question when I was dating (which is probably why I didnt settle down with someone from NY) - the worst being a date over coffee with this woman who took 30 minutes to tell me why she thought that a red cooper mini was the car for her (it pretty much boiled down to 'because I think Id look cute in it"). There was this woman sitting next to us who gave me this look like "you poor poor guy.." and I gave her a look back like "ah well, what are you going to do" --

worst episode ever.

The coffee shop was probably on Bell Boulevard. ;)

Heh yeah me too.
If I had dated guys based on the "cool car" criteria I would have never dated. "All three" of my relationships have been with guys who have only ever owned vans: one with an old mini-van, the other two owned old cargo vans. Senor Six had sold his van by the time we met. He and I share the car my Mom gave me (her old one).

Oh and I guess I briefly dated a guy who had a convertible---but it was a hideous little rusty turquoise/"teal" thing.

I think I'd feel weird dating a guy with a fancy car. Just not my kettle of fish. As it stands Senor Six & I already feel weird/yuppish enough with our 8-year-old Subaru Impreza. We pretty much only use it to do major grocery shops and to get out of the city.

I don't think I've ever asked what kind of a car someone drives. Who cares? I have had girlfriends ask guys that question before, and it was always for shallow reasons.

True story.... my sister used to work with a woman in Atlanta who *always* did credit checks on guys before she dated them.

Ok, now back on the thread...

That question is a true sign of a shallow bitch. Avoid at all costs, even if you drive a Ferrari. What is your dating pool?

If she's shallow enough to ask this question, she probably is shallow enough to turn her nose up at going to rock shows and drinking pbr, probably likes her steaks well done if she even eats meat, gets her salad dressing on the side, is generally a picky eater...

... which translates into picky in the sack.

And what fun is that?

Dang, you got me.

At first I thought you were referencing Swingers, but his was a newer model, and he blurted out "It's Red" as the girl walked away.

OK, have had two dates since. The first, no mention of the car. Tonight, though, 20 mins into conversation

'So what kind of car *do* you drive?'

I started laughing, was thinking, you gotta be kidding me

I take crap from my girlfriend all the time for not owning a car or driving, but it's kind of hard to afford gas, insurance and a trusty car when you are paying most of the rent, buying groceries and paying your bills on time. I basically chose grad school over owning a car, it may not have been the best choice now, but at least I will always have that degree.
The only time I need a ride or use of a car is when we get groceries and I'm buying them for the both of us.

I've never been a motorcycle kind of guy, but lately the idea of restoring a classic bike has been appealing to me. of course, I'll take a Confederate Hellcat too, even if it does say confederate on it:
