dang...was expecting waaay more. they were really ameteurish live. they had to start over 3 times on one song, as the singer couldn't remember the lyrics. i heard one guy in the crowd scream "turn down the suck!" it was a pretty comical show.

I like BOH but I'm not surprised by your story.

well, they probably are pretty much amateurs. What with their debut album and all.

"Turn down the suck" just became my new favorite phrase.

They aren't really amateurs though. Weren't they in that band Clarissa's Wierd or something like that. I'm pretty sure they both came from the same band or two fairly established bands before forming Band of Horses. I am pretty sure they have had a fairly long history of being involved in the Pacific Northwest scene.

I love this album, so it does disappoint me, but alot of the hyped bands disappoint me live, that is part of hype.

It kept Billy Corgan employed for a LONG time.

Album is slowly growing on me, but I didn't have a strong desire to see them even before this thread.

that's not it at all.

for instance, Rogue Wave were dead boring live, but that doesn't effect my love for their album.

It is quite often the case that good album bands suck live, and good live bands suck on album. Not all bands kick ass in both realms, nor do all bands fail miserably in both.

That being said, I would have expected BOH to kick ass live, so this is a surprising thread in that respect.

bands to have off nights, don't they? Can any of Obner musicians safely say that they've never had a show that didn't suck ass?

No, I like their album, therefore I would have expected them to also be good live...especially since they are so similar to MMJ, who are known to pwn live.

No and it rarely bothers me when other bands did. Colbert still fucks up his delivery of jokes and lines (blew the timing on a whole segment the other night (no, not the wiki thing)), yet I still think he's one of the most hilarious comedians/entertainers going right now. Same applies for the consistency for live bands...if I wanted to see something ultra-dependable in the live music world, I'd probably be going to more arena shows, seeing teen pop groups, etc.
