pfork trashed their new album today. Seemingly for the crime of being derivative. Although that didn't stop them from giving a reach around to tapes n tapes a few months ago.

I remember seeing sound team in Austin a while back opening for the french kicks. When I got there the show was sold out which was kind of odd since I didn't think anyone but me likes the french kicks. Anyway, it turned out to be packed with high school kids watching sound team (they all left as soon as sound team finished) which seemed like a really bad sign but surprisingly sound team was pretty good.

Anyway, now that I've entertained everyone with that incredibly interesting story, has anyone heard this album/have an opinion on it? I was curious as I haven't really heard it yet.

RIYL: more of a new wave version of Spoon. But seriously, this guy does a way better Britt Daniel than the guy from Robbers On High Street. I mean, the dude is literally doing a Britt Daniel impression on vocals.

ok maybe i overgeneralized the *entire* album... but the single "your eyes are liars" definitely has the girls can tell vibe to it - 4/4 beat, britt daniel like vocals, etc.

i'll hook ya up when i get back to the office on wed, my copy is at work.

Personally, I think Sound Team are better than Spoon. Maybe because I'm tired of Spoon.

I caught the last couple of songs they played when they opened for the Arcade Fire in Central Park last year. Pretty good stuff, I'll be giving the album a listen soon.

I am definitely going to see them when they come to town this month, Cold War Kids are opening.

Dri's right. "Your Eyes Are Liars" is a new wave Spoon song. Kind of reminds me of The Fixx's "Red Skies At Night" a little.

Anyways, balls to pfork. I never agree with their reviews anyways. My opinion of this band is climbing with every new listen.

I love this album. It made a good initial impression, and it just grew on me with every listen.

I just saw them live last Wednesday, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin opened. Horrible band name, but they were good. Sound Team, aside from a few technical difficulties with the mike (which isn't their fault), were great live.

i think its a pretty darn good album. nothing huge of the originality-o-meter, but good show and nice songs.

It could just be these crappy computer speakers, but I'm hearing The Killers a lot more than I'm hearing Spoon.

I really do. Several lighning strikes in, and they emit something that barely resembles the real sound of a song. I've got to burn this for a proper listen.

I've been listening to this quite a bit lately, and I like it a lot. It's pieces of Walkmen, Strokes, and Spoon all rolled into one.

I've seen them, and I'd definately recommend going. Of course, I was already pretty familiar with the songs beforehand and that always helps.
