I've been with Cingular since I first got a cell phone over 5 years ago, but in October my plan ends and I'm looking to change companies. So my question is, who's great and who sucks?

I'm seriously leaning towards Verizon and Sprint (I'd get 10% off due to the company I work for with Sprint).

Also, I don't know if this makes much of a difference, but I kinda want to get a PDA with my next phone. Surfing the net any time I want sounds like a huge plus.

I have Sprint, basically because of a huge discount I get through my friend who works for a hospital, but I've heard Verizon has the best coverage and T-Mobile the best service.

I actually haven't had a problem with Cingular's service. Their costumer service, however, has been terrible. And I feel like their media plans (text messaging, etc.) are more expensive. I was actually a converted AT&T customer, by the way.

Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications are two separately owned companies. Verizon Communications is only part-owner of the wireless company.

How are they greedy? I don't really find them to be. I think overall their service plans are a bit more expensive all around but I got cell phone service in Glacier National Park (not that I used it in the park, but I was impressed that there was service there). I get service in tunnels, elevators, out in the middle of nowhere in the country and I rarely have dropped calls. However, it happens when I am on the phone with the West Coast somewhere more than it happens when connected to someone closer to my general proximity. Come to think of it, I can't think of any dropped calls when calling anywhere on the East Coast. Pretty damn good audio too. I have no complaints except for the taxes. But, that has very little to do with the service.

I do find that me paying for insurance is ridiculous. If you are careful with your phone, you'll never need it. But, I know that as soon as I stop paying for the insurance some random extremely rare occurrence will take place and I will need it.

I don't find them greedy. In fact, I have disputed many different charges and such and typically they just say, "ok, we've credited your account". I have never been fought on those issues. Their customer (not Costumer) service I find to be really good. One of the best. But, I think that can be very different depending on personal experience.

I am now shocked that I have had so much to say about my freaking cell phone. I'm gonna go read a book now.

I had Sprint and they sucked (shitloads of dropped calls, crappy service). I switched to Verizon and it's been great for me so far.

I switched from Cingular to T-Mobile. Cingular was ok, but had shitty customer service and spots of no service in weird areas around Athens (like at my house at the center of town on Barber St., for those of you that know Athens). I switched to T-Mobile because the plans were cheaper, but since I've changed over, I've also found that service (both cellular and customer) is way better, plus my overall cost is cheaper. If only I could upgrade to a really good new phone for free/cheap with a contract resigning.... the free phone they are offering now is crappier than the phone I have now, though my phone may die at any point now...

Cingular currently, but they just seem to rip us off with text extras and data transfer, $14 for 7:00 anytime minutes, $4 to get cheaper international rates and such.

Verizon and Cincinnati Bell have the best service in Cincinnati. T-mobile is the worst coverage. Cingular's customer service has been pretty crappy for me. They overcharged me $17 on my last bill, but fixed it pretty readily.
Sprint has the best deals now since they have the free 7:00 anytime minutes. Sprint also had the crappiest service when I had them in Chicago and when I roamed to Cincinnati. I paid to get out of that contract.

Cricket now has deals where you buy the phone with no contract and pay $45 for unlimited everything, except roaming, but the area coverage is pretty large around Cincinnati.

verizon for me, tmobile for the wife (because she wanted the pebl). i get great service anywhere but the Green mountains, she doesn't even get one bar in the outer banks of north carolina. still, verizon tried to force me to re-up for 2 years to change her maiden name on her account to her married one, so i took her contract and gave it to tmobile.

Re-up the contract for 2 years to change a name? Ridiculous.

I remember Sprint re-upped our contract every time we added a service, or upgraded minutes or whatever. That's just a scam to keep you longer.

I have Verizon, have received better service coverage than the other companies I've used. I have learned that if I go into one of their stores, I'll receive crappy customer service, but if I call, their service is soooooo much better. For instance, when my mom passed away, I had a Family Service Plan. Since I was no longer able to use the extra line, I explained my situation and they said "no problem, bring in a copy of her death certificate or newspaper obituary". They made certain I didn't incur the $175 termination fee AND offered me a better service plan than I had prior.

My business phone has Cingular which pretty much sucks.

i switched from sprint to tmobile last fall after many years with the former. the tmobile coverage where i live is better than sprint's, which was my main reason for getting it. i occasionally have a problem where i can't hear someone on the other end when i answer, but that may be more phone-related than due to the service.

I've had both Cingular and US Cellular at the same time. One was personal and the other was work. I thought US Cell had better service, customer, and range plus they, unlike Cingular, don't use their clients to beta test handsets.

I used to have Cingular, and thought their customer service was great, but I find that their new advertising campaign is "the lowest dropped calls..." wasn't applicable to me. I remember having spotty coverage and dropped calls with them, but I was with them for 6 years.
Since I changed jobs, I'm now on Sprint because the company pays for it. From day one, the customer service SUCKED. Coverage is kind of meh. It goes into roaming mode while I'm sitting in my house for no apparent reason.
I have a Plam TREO phone. I can check my e-mails and stuff from it, but if you want great graphics while surfing the web, don't get this phone. Plus, the wireless connection is about as slow as a 28.8k modem.

Friends who have had Verizon or T-Mobile seem to be satisfied all the way around save the complaints from T-Mobile customers about the lack of "cool" phones available.

i recently switched from cingular to verizon.

mostly because of the free in-calling and in-texting.
the one person i spend the most time on my phone with had verizon...and it made more sense for me to switch. i never went over my minutes on cingular but he went over big time on verizon. so, i thought it fair for me to switch over. and i got a razr really cheap taboot taboot.

i was always very happy with cingular's coverage. their prices were very reasonable. however, customer service ... sucked. they are the rudest pieces of shit EVER.
