This is the shit history is made of. I was rooting for Germany but goddamn, Italy returned with a vengeance at the final minutes of the game. And in OT...GOD.DAMN.

The gotdamn Italians have been driving up and down Hastings all day, hanging out of cars and honking and waving that three-flavor flag of theirs. It's getting annoying.

I don't think my city has Italians cuz I've not heard a peep. You'd think the Mexicans who share flag colours would do something.

As soon as the Italians won, I quickly realized how much the USA squandered this WC. The Americans tied the Italians with only 9 men playing and actually scored a game-winning goal with only 9 men, albeit on an interference.
I thought Germany played a good game the 2nd half and first half of the overtime, the Italians just had the right combination of luck and skill to win a tight game like that.

St. Peter's Church, Broadway in Lincoln Heights near Little Italy. Little Joe's. Most of the Eye-talians now live on the Westside or the Valley... but they come back to the old neighborhood.

Let's be clear, I am one of the biggest US supporters I know, but they were clearly overmatched in this tournament. If they were world class they would have beat Ghana. They are a strong team, but in no way were they ready to go Semifinals+

Italy had a bad game against the States.

Wish I hadn't opened this thread at work. T-storms washed out any street celebration, and the replay (albeit scrambled) was on when I got home. Watched anyway, knowing the outcome, and was riveted still.

The first goal was an incredible shot. It bended perfectly. I was rooting for Germany but that was a perfect goal.

You probably don't know this but there are a lot of Scottish-Italians live here, especially Glasgow. Probably the most famous one would be Dario Franchetti - the indie car driver.

Anyway, almost all the fish and chip shops in Scotland are owned by Italian familes and the one I lived near as a kid was owned by a guy called Sal. Anytime you went in the bell above the door would ring and he would appear from behind the deep fat fryer and, in the most over the top, exuberant, stereotypical Italian accent possible, say "HEY!!!!! YOU WANNA FISH N' CHIPS??!!!"

He would always be very disappointed when we just wanted a 10p mix up.

So I hope that win makes up for all those 10p mix up disappointments, Sal.
