Even though they are good, they are definitely the token African band for white hipsters to listen to which is kind of annoying. They had a DC show scheduled, but I don't know if that has been changed or not.

Why can't any of these damn foreign bands (I'm thinking Boris and Boredoms in particular) make their token Southeast appearance and fucking play Atlanta? Dammit.

I guess no one here books them?

i don't know how well they'd draw in atlanta. i do know that boris had a guarantee this past spring that some promoters in smaller markets simply didn't think could be reached while also breaking even.

i don't know how well they'd draw in atlanta. i do know that boris had a guarantee this past spring that some promoters in smaller markets simply didn't think could be reached while also breaking even.

You might be right (especially in the case of Konono No. 1) depending on how high the guarantee was. Still, Atlanta shows like that, if promoted right, can draw in fans from all over the region. If the Echo Lounge was still open, those shows probably could have worked out fine. But as it is, there really isn't an ideal venue large enough (Variety Playhouse would be the closest), and that probably has something to do with it, too.
