Lemonheads, who signed to Vagrant in April, have set a September 26th release date for their upcoming debut for the label. The band reformed last summer and began work on their eighth studio album and first in almost a decade with producer Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents, ALL) who, along with Karl Alvarez (Descendents, ALL) is moonlighting in the band. Member of The Band, Garth Hudson and Dinosaur Jr. guitarist/frontman J Mascis also appeared on the record.

Formed in the 80s, the band released three albums on Taang - home of Poison Idea and Slapshot, before signing to Atlantic and rocketing to mainstream success.

The Lemonheads are planning a U.S. tour for the fall, but fans in the U.K. will get to see the band this month at the Lattitude Festival in Suffolk on July 14th and on July 16th at Somerset House in London. The current touring band includes Dando with Josh Lattanzi (bass) and John Kent (drums).

I've always had a soft spot in my cold, jaded heart for the Lemonheads.

I think I'm looking forward to this assuming Evan still has some good catchy numbers left in him. It's an added bonus for me to read that J Mascis is a guest.

I had a huge boner for Evan Dando for years. When I met him at Double Door last year, he was such a dick, he was taken off my list of celebrities I'd like to f*ck.*

Even though he was a dick, I still love his voice and his songs, so I will be a 100% supporter of this new material.

Did anyone see him when he toured with MC5, Mark Arm and Marshall Crenshaw? What a trainwreck.








(That's a total lie. If ED showed up on my doorstep and was like, "give it up, girl" in that hot voice of his, first I'd make him sing, "If I Could Talk, I'd Tell You" and then jump the hell out of him.)

When I heard it was on Vagrant I was so afraid until I realised that Eels are on Vagrant now and their last record didn't go emo at all. So I guess I can still be hopeful about this.

But really it's just Dando and some new people. So is it really the Lemonheads? Isn't it just Evan Dando & Friends? And I know some of you will argue that Evan was the Lemonheads and the other people didn't really matter but, if that's the case, why did he release a solo album a couple of years ago? What's the difference between that album and this album?

If Juliana was involved I would've flipped. But she's got a new album coming out next week with her side band Some Girls so I can go 'round the bend for that one and stay mistrustful of the Lemonheads.

I still love the Taang rekkids. Hate Your Friends and Lick have great album covers, too.
