Then again, I don't make a point of hating 90% of the things that other people like.
i'd really like to see you back this up- i like at least as much terrible shit as the rest of you dumbasses, although it's possible that i've hated more things that you like than most people. i don't really know your tastes well enough to say.

I don't know that you necessarily hate a lot of things that I like, but it seems that most of the time you present a strong opinion on something it's both negative and directly condemning of the people who like it. I actually don't have any problem with that, but I doubt I'm alone in feeling that you're mostly negative and in a generally confrontational sort of way.

I do realize that you talk about watching all kinds of complete crap, but in a way that puts your tastes beyond reproach. You know and acknowledge that it's crap so what can anyone say? On the other hand, it seems rare to me that you post about things you really think highly of, and so you avoid leaving your tastes vulnerable to criticism. One particular instance that comes to mind is a list thread from while back where you were tossing around criticisms (and maybe insults? I dunno) of other people's lists without ever posting one of your own.

So there's my back-up, I guess.

edit: ton of mistakes

julian donkey boy was really painfull to sit through. i couldn't wait for it to end, and do to watching it with friends i had to sit through it.

i'm sure there was something going on, but to me it just seemed creepy and weird for the sake of beign creepy and weird. And it made me hate the director.

it's strictly for shock value.
that's pretty much it right there. he doesn't actually have any command of plot or character or really anything traditionally associated with telling a story, it's just mildly fucked up characters -- generally framed as products of their environments, so they're not even responsible for their generally pedestrian fucked-uped-ness -- doing mildly boring shit. at the end of each movie, you don't usually care anything for any of his characters, save for a half-minded idea that some would probably be catching bullets in a desert. I find that the people that feign defense of his movies are usually either fans of those youtube clips of people falling down stairs or people struggling to find something they consider "real", and how they find that in these tritely scripted movies is beyond me. And drinky, swing away my man, swing away i guess.

although the subtext that i think that everyone, ever, is stupid could apply here as well.

Thats a fairly broad generalization. I don't mind that you may or may not like the films, I just feel that one word reviews don't fly with me. I would say he has quite a command of character when you remember how screwed up they were. Also, for you to make the connection that they were products of their environment, at least in my mind, makes me at least a bit hesitant on calling the film a complete waste.

Perhaps you'd like to suggest some films. I'm not being sarcastic in any way either. Maybe you've seen some things that might be of interest. As a filmmaker myself, I can completely see where Korine could be misconstrued as "gimmicky", but unfortunately I feel that they have some truth to them. Gummo and JDB aren't for everyone to be sure.

Project Runway starts Wednesday night, July 12th at 10pm. Alot of the new cast members that are doing promos seem like typical reality show contestants rather than real fashion designers, I'm a little skeptical right now.
Though I can't wait to find out why a cast member gets kicked off the show.

I love watching an old lady fall down the stairs, but I couldn't get more than about 20 minutes into Gummo.
