First off - I am not really a mars volta fan - Big ATDI fan though. I know some of you like this band so--->

The Mars Volta recently spoke with billboard about their upcoming full length, Amputechture. The album is slated for a release through Strummer/Universal on August 22nd in the US, and August 11th in Europe. The album was produced by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and was mixed by Rich Costey. The artwork will be created by Jeff Jordan.

The album features eight lengthy songs, with the opener, "Vicarious Atonement," clocking in at seven minutes. Another track is the 17-minute "Tetragrammaton," and the band promises two other tracks that clock in past the 11-minute mark, "Meccamputechture" and "Day of the Baphomets." The disc itself runs more than 76 minutes in length. The album also marks the recorded debut of Paul Hinojo, formerly of Sparta.

this album has leaked - PM ME FOR YSI.

I shouldn't like this band, but I actually enjoyed both of their two. I'm interested in hearing their new stuff.

LOOOOVED their first album, barely managed to coming around to liking their second. I have two of their new songs downloaded, but I haven't listened to them yet. I'd rather hear the full thing. Timis, check ya PMs!

Ooh, wow. Longs songs, what a concept. BFD.

Too noisy. They need to find a good producer.

I'm a fan. I dig em. I loved Frances, and the live album it spawned. A band actually doing things their way and not listening to all the press about them.

I've never heard any Journey or Rush in their music. Sure there are similar inspirations but nothing that sounds like a quintessential Rush or Journey album. I'd say more King Crimson personally.

I'm a huge Rush fan and I don't really hear much that sounds like Rush in their music. Maybe early Journey, pre-Perry, but the whole Santana influence has been noted many times before when it comes to tMV anyway, so that makes sense. What I hear is a bunch of dudes that dropped acid and listened to Santana, then smoked crack while trying to make sped-up Gentle Giant albums instead.

And the little bit of this new one that I've listened to so far sounds MUCH better than Frances the Mute, which I thought was a complete mess. I loved Comatorium but they seemed to just lose all sense of direction with FtM. They're back on track, relatively, with this one. Strangely, I actually really enjoyed the weird little live thing, Scabdates, a lot more than FtM, but a lot of people hated it.

I'll have to give this another try later, I couldn't make it through the second song. I wasn't in the mood for all the noodling. The other albums were growers too, though. So I may still like it.
