Helmet have posted the first video and downloadable track from their upcoming debut for Warcon Enterprises. The band will be releasing Monochrome on July 18th. For the record, the band enlisted Strap It On and Meantime collaborator Wharton Tiers to co-produce and return to the organic sound the band is known for.

The album is the first since 2004's Size Matters.

Somebody's got the new album cheap ( like, $7.99 ) the week of release, but I can't remember for sure who. I wanna say Circuit City, but check yer local listings, as they say.

I might pick it up at that price, even though I hated "Size Matters".

makes me feel like a high schooler again. i quite fondly remember being on top of a crowd while "unsung" was blasting at the state palace theatre in nola back in 94 i think.

Arrangement + riffs = yes. Not sure if the production's off or I'm not listening to it loud enough. Perhaps both. Nevertheless, it's a reassuring start.

Exactly my thoughts, too. Except I also thought "Do we really need this?" I mean, this is ground that was covered already with Strap It On and Meantime. I don't think I need more of that - they perfected it there and that's about all of that I need. I liked that Betty moved in a bit of a more diverse direction, but then Aftertaste lost momentum - and I actually think that's an okay album. I may be one of the few. And Size Matters . . . well, we all know about that one.

While this album breaks no new musical ground it should be satisfying to fans of Helmet's "Born Annoying" and "Meantime" albums.
