i think we've come to the consensus that the new allmusic is bollocks and speed is one of the main reasons why. so, ive got some tips for speeding it up. these are firefox only. if youre not on firefox, then you should really think about it. first off, go here and do what it says. its for broadband only, so you people on dialup wont be able to see any difference. this will speed up the browser on all pages, not just allmusic, and it really works. second, block out all the ads. i can live with most pages with ads, but the new allmusic is crap, so they lose their privileges for ads with me. first, for ads that are just gifs or jpgs, basically, normal pictures, they can be blocked out easily. what you do is right click the image, and choose "block images from x" where x is the server. this will tell firefox not to load any images from this server, effectively blocking out the ads. you have to be a little leary as to the server, since while there are many that are devoted only to advertising, there are others that are on the same server as the webpage youre visiting, and that will block out all the images on a webpage. this can always be turned off though, so its not the biggest deal, just be aware of it. the second type of ads that need to be blocked are flash ads. these cant be blocked with a simple right click. for these, i use flashblock. this replaces all flash objects with a button that you can press if you want to see them, or you can leave them alone if you dont. you can also use adblock, but ive never been able to get the hang of it, and this way i feel is easier. so, those are my two tips. allmusic is still not as fast as the old version, but it is better than before, and was worth it. enjoy.

Also, go to the allmusic office and punch everyone in the balls until they make a site that works again

Maybe if more people contributed to music-wiki.org, there would be a good alternative to Allmusic.

i can barely use it in safari. soooooooooo slow and often times doesn't even load, period.

yeah, weird, isnt it? i dont agree with their political beliefs, but damned if they dont write one good article about speeding up firefox. if they keep to the computer stuff, i might just look past it. i might look past it.

I actually have a tendency to use Amazon over AMG for most things (tracklists, etc.).

I've also tried the following: from google, try searching for "site:allmusic.com dresden dolls", and the Overview page will take you straight to the Dresden Dolls page.

This works because google is faster than Allmusic.com.

Firefox extension. Gets rid of 'Read More' bullshit on AMG and just displays the full album review/biography straight away.

Use http://www.mp3.com. Same info, no bullshit logging in, which never works for me anyway.

or you can download greasemonkey and install the all music guide script.

yeah, i found it last week and im loving it. theres a few more here. i like this one. it skips the frame you always have to click through when youre searching for images on google.
