Looking for something cheap and easy for a microphone plugged into a soundcard. This looks like it does the trick, but I'm curious what you all use for your purposes (be they similar or different).

Well, what are you trying to do, first off? If you just need to do basic mixing and recording, Audacity is fine.

There's a free, 8-track version of Pro Tools (http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/) that I've never tried but would prolly do the trick.

Record myself talking to burn to CD for drama school buds. Think 'audio book.'
