why the christ did they bring fucking wiltord on for henry

Henry was completely fucked. He could hardly get off the park nevermind do a job on it.

Anyway some of the greatest players of all time have missed penalties in a shoot out Baggio, Baresi, Zico, Platini, David Batty....

Here's my team of the tournament which I had a hard time picking because all the good players were defensive midfielders.

Buffon (Italy) - Zambrotta (Italy), Marquez (Mexico), Cannavaro (Italy), Lahm (Germany) - Maxi Rodriguez (Argentina), Maniche (Portugal), Riquelme (Argentina), Robben (Holland) - Klose (Germany), Torres (Spain).

i highly doubt it.

France was the better team through most of the match... that is, as they say, the way the ball bounces...

No doubt France was. And traditionally during a PK face-off the Captain of the team will take the lead and participate in the PKs, also don't forget that he (Zidane) had not missed a single PK shot throughout the qualifying rounds.

He was on loan to Chelsea for the later part of last season but he was and I think still is contracted to Dinamo Moscow.

Presumably he'll be back there unless he gets a move but apparently he's fallen out with the coach there and doesn't play.

If they don't offer the job to him with a decent amount of cash, we deserve to suck up the next World Cup too. With him already living in Southern Cal, he's perfect for the job. Plus, he might be more inclined to push for more risky friendly opposition than some of the teams we get now.

Klins said at the press conference where he announced his exit from coaching Germany that he was "burnt out" and "had not agreed to in any way to coach the U.S. side". So --

was that just a ruse, since Arena was technically still the coach;

or, is Klinsmann really not going to coach U.S. in 2010 to a Cup title (on home soil)?

He probably is burnt out. They just need to give him some time and a great deal of money. They could get an interim coach for a year or two and have him come in to coach around 2008.
Hopefully the South African WC is more like the Korean/Japan cup of 2002 for the Americans

He'll prolly be hired before '08, if at all, since qualifying for WC10 in S. Africa (or U.S.) will begin in '08. I would expect an early '07, maybe New Year's, even, hire, then.

KLINSMAN!
