I had to squint a little bit, but I got it.

"Don't Do That" - Saigon
He's been around for a couple years, but I'm willing to bet his whole thing on Entourage has like quadrupled his audience. i bet he was sitting there like "how do I get more white people listening to my music" and his manager was like "jeremy piven, dude". probably not, but that's just what i'm gonna assume happened. This is a Just Blaze beat, which is nice. I think I read somewhere he was gonna do his entire album, which'd be pretty sweet.

"Talkin Torn Blues" - The Deadstring Blues
I wish the rest of the album was as upbeat as this. Still, homeboy must have stolen Jagger's DNA or something. These guys aren't british are they? Detroit guy sounding like a british guy who's trying to sound american. and it's not even billie joe armstrong. Still, there's something about a Hammond B-3 that just makes me like a song. That might be my favorite specific instrument of all time.

"Tenement Teeth.2" - Pela
I read somewhere that these guys are gonna be the next hot shit this year, but haven't heard much about them since them. It sounds like the sort of thing that would be the hot shit this year, though. I feel like a lot of bands that have had these mini-explosions lately have singers with terrible voices. or sound like early U2. Isn't it odd that Bono doesn't even have the best voice in his own band? I don't know that, and the edge certainly sounds like shit, but for some reason they can harmonize like a motherfucker. Pela doesn't. At least not on this track.

"The First Vietnamese War" - The Black Angels
these guys have a bit of a menacing sound, no? Ominous, maybe. I'm not really feeling it right now, but in the past I've really enjoyed their stuff. I think I just heard them too much on KEXP for awhile and had to back off.

I'm really not that drunk at all. I think I'm still in the truthiness zone. Gimme like 3 more hours to start making an embarrassment of myself. For now I need to smoke a cigarette. which is proabbly a good start.

"Never Do This Again" - The M's
I posted this on the blog a few days ago. I've been fucking loving this song for the past few days, but not really understanding why. I mean, it's the sort of track where nothing is great, but a bunch of modest parts unite to form a veritable voltron of shambling rock. I always think it's funny when a band has 2 singers singing every single line in the song.

OH SHIT Fist of Legend is on. I might have to go watch the rest of this.

"Third Man Theme" - Anton Karas
so that's what a zither sounds like? hmm.. I like this song, it reminds me a bit of "Zorba the Greek".

"Pick Up the Phone" (live) - The Notwist
I like the Notwist, I really do. But I can't imagine ever paying to see them live. Any band that is best enjoyed with headphones, pot, and a dimly lit room does not make a necessary live show. It's be fun, I'm sure, but the whole time ytou'd be like "I could be sitting on a couch at home half baked and really appreciating this. and this beer sucks. why didn't I just stay home and listen to this? oh jeez that guy's hair looks like a cat that went through the dryer. i wonder how much that parking garage is gonna charge me when I get back" and so on.

okay, I'm gonna put this on hold because I need to grab something to eat, catch this movie, and figure out if I need more beer. Because I sure as shit won't be able to get it later.

I swear i've had this song for like 3 year but for some reason my ipod just fell in love with it this spring. maybe it knows about the move. I don't know. It's more or less about the exact opposite iof what we're doing (going towards LA, not buying a house, etc...) though. stupid ipod.

So what did you and chicky decide to do?

The Notwist are great live. Since they started as a punk band, that energy really comes out in the concert. Saw them with Themselves a couple of years ago. Dreaded Marco was there. It was righteous.

Well, she's waiting until she takes the GREs, but it's more or less decided that we're going. She's all but in the school, and it seems like this is the best oppurtunity that she could have. Now I gotta get DAT ring on her with enough time to throw together a quick wed-by on the way.

yeah, I'm full of a deranged sort of pride.

I did read about 70 pages of my book, which i guess is the sort of karmic writeoff I needed to justify such a fuck-all day

...and i'm back. andplenty ripe.

For the first time in memory, I'm the only person in the house, which means a lot of blaring music, bad singing, and general rowdiness. There are 4 high lifes left in the fridge. and I am fucked up, but will drink these because I don't wanna waste any.

So I met a friend of mine at the bar (who happens to be 22 and female) and the regular barflys there are like "dude, don't bring your girlfriend on the side here". I thought it was funny, because they kept lecturing me despite the fact that I said repeatedly "my girlfriend knows i'm here with my friend. I'll totally call her". aaaah barflies.

awesome.

shit right I can't! no, I hate starting the week with beer in the fridge, though.

"Jessica" - Adam Green
I totally forgot about this song, which is catchy as hell. I wonder if hipsters in 40 years will be like "who is thie broad they're talking about?" and then I remember she'll be president by then.

"A Quick On While He's Away" - The Who
From the Rock and Roll Circus. I seriously just rocked the fuck out listening to this.

"Redemption Song" - Joe Strummer & Johnny Cash
seriously, this might be the most depressing song of all time. I can't listen to it without getting a little misty. Two of the most endearing figures in music history, and easily 2 that I hold in the highest esteem. Which can mean only one thing: it's time for scotch

"Portland" - The Replacements
I should hate this, being late-era Replacements, but how can you not enjoy it? Fact: I've avoided visiting portland out of fear of wanting to move there.

"To All My Good Friends" - Luke Temple
This is the sort of song thatreminds me that I have friends. Seriously, though, I do have friends.

"Wicked Little Town" - The Breeders
here's something about Kin Deal's voice that makes me love this song. you'd think she'd have another album ready by now.

"Roland the Headles Thompson Gunner" - Warren Zevon
This song more or less got me though middle school. Guns, zombies, revenge... what else do you want?

This thread rules. About 8:30 I ate a burger and a slaw dog, and had to lay my head down. Now I have heartburn so bad I have dialed 9-1, and am just waiting to hit 1 again.
