Went there today. Too tired to write much about it right now, but it seemed like something appropriate to mention here. General impression: Fun, but not as great as I was expecting. The best section was the one on Northwest music. And of course the jamming rooms.

I've always heard it was better than the Rock & Roll HOF.

Both the exhibits mentioned by others (Dylan and Minneapolis) were not there. I had NW music, hip hop, guitars, Jimi Hendrix, modern rock posters, and then the jamming room.

no beatles exhibit? that one was pretty cool too.

the dylan exhibit was one of those special engagements ... so it was only around for a certain amount of time.

Ugliest. Building. Ever. (I've never been there, just saw it from the freeway and later up close on a recent visit to Seattle)

it's definitely a cool place to see while in Seattle... I've been a few times. The Hendrix room is amazing.

Kind of echoes his much better work in Bilbao:

In my opinion, living here in town with it for many years, I think that the appearance of EMP suffers from being right in the shadow of the Space Needle - I think it might still be one of my least favorite Gehry designs, but at least most of the other work he has been commissioned to do dominates the landscape as the Bilbao does.....EMP just doesn't stand a chance next to the hugeness of the Space Needle.

I've been once in six years to the museum, but saw X play in the SkyChurch where they have bands and it sucked balls. The museum staff works security and turns a punk rock show into a stupid exhibit.

Good place for out of towners to see I guess.

That thing is still there. It's pretty cool. It actually plays (into headphones) examples of various styles of music and you can see the guitars playing (there are animatronic picks).
