1. how deep does a cut have to be before a doctor should be visited? i just cut my finger with a knife and only stopped because i met some resistance. it's taking forever to type this because i can't use my left first finger. the cut's about an inch long and my finger's throbbing.

agree with haq. as long as you stop the bleeding within like 20 minutes of said cut you'll be fine. I usually give it a lot longer, but that's because i'm a firm believer in home first aid.

depends how wide it is too. i got a cut on my leg a couple of years ago that stopped bleeding after like 20 minutes but i have a pretty good sized scar on my leg now. scars are cool though.

It depends on where the cut is and how deep it is/how much is exposed. The hand is a pretty bad place to fuck with, however that seems to be where most relatively insignificant cuts occur. If you believe that you physically cannot bend/use your finger (i.e. not just because it hurts), then you should be a little more diligent in seeking medical attention. With that said, I also know that a puny cut equals a $600+ ER bill and a probably stitching, so use discretion.

If the bleeding has stopped, rinse the cut thoroughly (make it bleed) and pour a bottle of peroxide in there, bandage it up and you should be fine. If the bleeding wont stop even with compression, you should probably have someone take a look at it.
