Currently, mine:

1. He's Gone
2. Mississippi Half Step
3. They Love Each Other
4. Ripple
5. Terrapin Station

Yours?

I ask because I know there are some kids who appreciate the Dead here. I never really got much out of their jams, but I'm discovering more and more that their songwriting was masterful.

fuck...hard one. off the top of my head:

1. wharf rat
2. morning dew (i know, not an original...but fuck it)
3. eyes of the world
4. terrapin station
5. estimated prophet

top 3 are pretty solid for me...the last 2 could change at any given moment.

also, i think i was the only one to mention robert hunter in that "top lyricist" thread....

tough one considering I haven't intentionally listened to a dead song in 10 years:

1. Ripple
2. Bertha
3. Unbroken Chain
4. China Cat Sunflower
5. Greatest Story Ever Told

Ignoring whether or not they were covers, because the Dead pretty much made them their own anyway:

1. Me and My Uncle
2. Morning Dew
3. Looks Like Rain
4. Loser
5. Cumberland Blues/C.C.S. + I Know You Rider

oh, it's all too common I agree. But I also can't think of many that started their career by doing this, then somehow made them progressively worse throughout a 30 year career.

"Samson & Delilah" alone has been forever ruined for me. They tracked the suck right onto that one right there.

Confessions of a teenage pothead neo-hippie:

1) China Cat Sunflower --> I Know You Rider (sorry, these cannot be separated)
2) High Time
3) Cumberland Blues
4) Eyes of the World
5) Friend of the Devil

There are about 5-6 others that could've been on there though. I may have to pull out one of my Dick's Picks today.

how about this.....with the exception of that song "riding that train, high on cocaine"

i havent listened to a lick of any dead material.

so my question is:

is this a bad or good thing?

Somebody make me a Dead mix. I'm too lazy to buy any albums, and I'm honestly still a little afraid to.

the problem with this idea is that their live material is soooo much better than their studio recordings. and live mixes just don't work so well...plus it would have to be like a 6 disc set.

Single-disc, studio only.

I just want a sampling of songs not on their greatest hits stuff (or mostly not) because that's mostly all I've heard. I understand that the live stuff may be better performances/production, but those same songs can be found on the studio albums, right? It could have a few live tracks mixed in between the studio stuff, too, I guess. I would think that could work OK.

C'mon, somebody.

it's mandatory that whoever sends him the mix should also include a joint and can of patchouli oil
