riding with no hands takes no talent - the wheel stays straight by itself. turning 90 degrees with no hands... now that's impressive.

I just spent twenty minutes trying to find video of Waldorf and Stadler from the Muppets sitting on a park bench watching Miss Piggy and Kermit riding bikes. To no avail.

Kermit: "Look, no feet."
Miss Piggy: "Look, no hands."
Waldorf and Stadler: "Look, no brains."

And, I always thought that bikers had to follow the same traffic laws as cars, making riding two ways on a one way street illegal.

so basically a no handed turn on a bike is impressive. It doesn't matter the severity of the turn, just so long as at some point you are 90 degrees from where you started the turn? Psh. I can do that.

ok, i'll give you boundaries: a 90 degree turn at a normal-sized city intersection, from one bike lane into the other. there. is that easy, you son of a bitch?

That's better. I hope when you are deliberating in front of the "your honor's" that you're a bit more articulate and less cussy.

haha

Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in Chicago, unless you are under 16 or 12 or something like that. The same law is in effect here in Cincinnati.

yeah, but it doesn't really stop people from doing it. if you don't want to ride your bike on that street, find an alternate route or don't ride.

i soooooooo want to be able to ride with no hands. sometimes, when i ride behind z, i see him take both hands off the bar, or he'll turn around and i just want to push him down, i'm so jealous.

sorry, james. it's the truth.

i rarely take both hands off the bars anymore. i almost fell while opening a bottle of water awhile ago and my confidence isn't back yet. although, i always turn around and i'm finally not veering toward the left when i do this now.

I have been guilty of talking on my phone while riding, but it's been on empty residential streets, and not long conversations or anything. It's actually usually me calling into my work to tell them I'm going to be a few minutes late because of the damn train that's stopped on the street I normally take, requiring me to backtrack and go a different route.

About riding on the sidewalk, it's illegal in the downtown district here, but outside downtown there are no laws forbidding it. I don't like to ride on the sidewalk, but sometimes on those busier streets with no bike lanes, it gets a little scary. Drivers here love to mess with cyclists by passing too closely or honking or yelling shit at you. Nothing I like more than getting clipped with cars' side mirrors when all I'm trying to do is go to the grocery store. You don't want me riding my bike on your street?? Then give me a damn ride.

I am also one of those idiots with no lights on my bike, and I don't own a helmet. Yes, I know. Don't lecture me. My bike is also a piece of crap. Though it's my only form of wheeled transportation...

Morons for sure. Z is excluded though. I'm an advocate for helmets too. It really surprises me the amount of people cruising around the city without a helmet on. Years ago I was nailed by a car and thanks to my helmet, I can still write this.

Anyone ride a cyclocross bike? I want one!

I do and I love it. So does F4df.

I've got a Trek xo-1 and he's got the specialized tricross sport i think.

haha, thanks.

yeah, the number of people who ride without a helmet is staggering. years of bmxing in my younger days (sans helmet) have made me an advocate of it now.

Cool. The Redline "Conquest" line of cyclocross bikes interest me due to their out of the box competiveness. Solid frame and components for under $1000. I'm sure the Trek and Specialized model are just as great.

people should wear helmets, yes, but to get mad at people for not doing so is pretty ridiculous as well. It's not your brains that are gonna potentially get splayed out across the pavement, you know?

okay, i've done it on lincoln, but really late at night. the real crazies are the bicyclists who text-message. or the ones who ride lake shore at 11pm without lights.

I don't know about texting while bicycling, but when driving, if I'm not also sipping coffee, text-messaging, and thrumming out a tune on the dash, then I'm not driving.

I runacross this bridge that is clearly marked as no bikes, so i run right down the goddamned middle of the path and try to force bikers to ride on the infinitely more dangerous superhighway to our left.

that front wheel's going to hurt you a lot more than the bicyclist who hits you.

after living in chicago for awhile, the concept of a bridge (or anywhere) that prohibits bikes sounds pretty foreign to me.

they're allowed to bike on the road with everyone else, just not on the 3 ft wide path with the guard rails. I'll take my chances with the cyclists.

Yeah, but who pays for their emergency room care if they're not insured, huh? Huh?

You and me, baby.
